2K Games announced today that The Darkness(TM) II, the sequel to the million unit-selling 2007 title, The Darkness(TM), will be available for the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system and Windows PC on October 4, 2011 in North America and October 7, 2011 internationally. Inspired by the supernatural horror comic book series created by Top Cow Productions, Inc., and developed by Digital Extremes, The Darkness II breaks from the sea of conventional first-person shooters (FPS), and takes players down a brutal and personal path as Jackie Estacado, wielder of Darkness - an ancient and ruthless force of chaos and destruction. Your first look at the world of The Darkness II is in the new debut trailer which can be seen at www.embracethedarkness.com.

The Darkness II is a well of dark and imaginative violence that breaks from the traditional FPS conventions with its uniquely stylized gameplay. The fervid Quad-Wielding(TM) gameplay empowers players to slash, grab, and throw objects and enemies using ruthless Demon Arms, while simultaneously firing two weapons. Layered with intricate uses of dark versus light gameplay, the game engulfs players in a whole other level of sophisticated combat. Combined with a complex and twisted storyline, and stylistic violence that is visualized through a hand-painted graphic noir technique, The Darkness II harkens back to its roots of the comic book origins for fans and newcomers alike.

It's been two years since Jackie Estacado, now the Don of the Estacado crime family, used Darkness to kill the men responsible for his girlfriend's murder. Jackie continues to have haunting visions of his beloved Jenny since her death. He's tried to cope by bottling up his supernatural power, and now Darkness wants out. A sudden, unprovoked attack on Jackie's life heralds the start of a full-scale mob war, which has clearly been orchestrated by some outside force. The botched attempt opens the door for Darkness to reemerge, and sets Jackie on a journey to hell and worse, as he unravels the mystery behind the attack and the motivations of Darkness itself.

Take a step back from the familiar and comfortable, and prepare to embrace Darkness.

I loved the first game, I'm looking forward to this one even though this is a pretty mediocre teaser.

Alex Proyas or Guillermo Del Toro would be great choice as the director!

Joseph Gordon-Levitt or Jon Hamm as Jackie Estacado.

@AlexDeLarge87- Those are two entirely different actors. I'd go with JGL. Also i agre with bo9th you and Thewolfx, thi game should've been third person. It'd be like Devil May Cry and Capcom's underrated PS2 actioner "Chaos Legion" as you could summon things to help you fight.

Darkness is an awesome character. He's very underrated.

Exactly. If they made this game like Ninja Gaiden in 3rd person action, it would be justice.

Jon Hamm as Jackie? I don't think Hamm would pass for a 21 year old. Lol

I always saw Darkness as a mixture between Spawn and Green Lantern. I wish Marvel would get Darkness.

Disappointed that they didn't bring back Kirk Acevedo to voice Jackie, but I'm still excited and looking forward to good things.

Great article Josh,
Im really hyped about the 2nd game the first was great & in this time over saturated military FPS only this will be a breath of fresh air.
@ Sagemode I must disagree I really wouldn't want marvel to get hold of the rights to the Darkness. Top cow/ Image are my favorite comic company around in most instances they are more concerned with the characters then the financial bottom line. I must be honest however I got into comic through darkness & Top cow so I will always view them superior to like Marvel/ Dc... etc...

I flaming wish they would produce more media based of the top characters.
Tom judge, Darkness, Witchblade, Necromancer (i think Disney would do this one very well), Madame mirage etc...

I said Jon Hamm cause to me he kinda looks like Estacado little bit.

But yeah i would go with Gordon-Levitt too!;)
