Will Poulter Will Play 'Pennywise' In New Adap Of Stephen King's IT

"They all float down here, Georgie." New Line's retelling of Stephen King's classic horror tale has found its killer clown, as Will Poulter (The Maze Runner, Son Of Rambow) will take on the role made (in)famous by Tim Curry in the 1991 miniseries. Click on for more details....

According to Variety, 22-year-old British actor Will Poulter (The Revenant, Son of Rambow, The Maze Runner, The Chronicles of Narnia, We’re the Millers) has been cast as Pennywise the clown in New Line's remake of IT, which will be directed by Cary Fukunaga. Tim Curry terrified an entire generation back in 1991 when he played the murderous demon, who disguised himself as a clown to lure children to their doom. Apparently older actors such as Mark Rylance and Ben Mendelsohn were considered initially, but after being blown away by Poulter's audition New Line and Fukunaga decided to go a different route.

Fukunaga also penned the screenplay along with Chase Palmer, and Seth Grahame-Smith and David Katzenberg will produce through their KatzSmith banner. The plan is to split King's 900 page novel into two films.

I always thought Paul Giamatti would have been a great successor to Tim Curry.

This kid is a real good actor. Plays many different types of roles and is real good in each. Wouldn't mind this casting at all.

Interesting choice. Would have never of guessed he would get the part.

Haven't seen much of his work, but I trust Cary Fukunaga. Guy does not make casting choices lightly. Very selective. True Detective shows he's capable of bringing the best out of actors.

I have high hopes for this.

All the people complaining seem to be under the impression that the first IT was good. It really wasn't...

Tough movie to squeeze into 2 or 2.5 hours. Curious to see if it will be more than one movie, or how bad it will be if it isn't.

Two movies actually makes sense for this. The story is very distinctly told in two parts, even the mini series did it.

Uh oh...

I hate it when they recast Horror icons. Tim Curry was incredible in IT. Probably my 2nd favourite horror villain behind Freddy Krueger. We were lucky when casting Jackie Earle Haley worked out for the Nightmare on Elm Street reboot(although it bombed, it was fantastic). This, I don't know if we'll be so lucky, it's a tricky part to nail down.

he was the worst part in The Maze Runner, so friggin annoying to watch. Hopefully covered in make up and cgi, he'll be bearable

Curry was the best, but I'll reserve judgement until I see it. As "It" is one of my favorite stories ever, I'm excited for this.

With all the Stephen King books that haven't been adapted into films yet, why must Hollywood retread the same material over and over?

Yeah, the original adaptation wasn't that great, but for a horror miniseries from 1990, it was pretty damn memorable. I say leave well enough alone.

Besides, this casting choice isn't exactly blowing my skirt up.
