As my chart says, I’m saying Iron Man 2 is a Good CBM as well as a good movie. The characters look great, which is not that difficult considering they have done it right the first time. Visually I’m saying this is how I want my comicbook characters transfer to the big screen. At first glance they look like they were lifted out of the pages of the funnybooks. Though I would have a wanted a taller and more “Russian” Black Widow, but to be honest ScarJo works well in the movie. The Whiplash – Crimson Dynamo Amalgam character also served the story well, and I would think the character would translate well into comics.
The blood toxicity level thing I felt was a good touch, because at the start of the movie I was thinking they were going with the Demon in the Bottle route, but what finally turned out I think was more appropriate for the movie. I just have to say that the movie flowed organically from the first movie, at least they didn’t go with “lets just make this bigger and badder” mindset. Which always is the problem for movie sequels (here’s looking at you ROTF). I just felt that the movie went quite a bit long in some areas and short in others. I have to say I would have wanted to see Stark working on his updated suits, I kind of miss that part (I know he made that new arc reactor for his chest but would have like to see him constructing the Mark V or VI, but I guess they opted to give that scene to Rourke’s character in creating his Whiplash armor).
I think it is now safe to say that Jon Favreau delivered another spectacle for Marvel, and may he continue churning out great CBMs. He is great behind and in front of the camera. His scenes as Happy with Scarlett Johansson was priceless, especially that boxing ring bit. I guess he really can bring the “funny”. In terms of the actors I think everyone was just right for their roles, Rourke is definitely exceptional, Rockwell was also Hilarious, I would a watch an all dialogue movie with these guys and Downey. Cheadle owned the role of Rhodey, sorry to Terence Howard, but I did not miss him a bit for the role.
To sum it up I love the movie but is it the best CBM out there, I’ll say no, but definitely it’s a must watch movie of the year. Watched it already twice the first one with my niece and nephews and my cousins, all of them after the movie can’t stop making the Iron Man pose. The second one me and my wife had a second viewing, and I honestly still enjoyed it. And by the way I can’t wait for the other Marvel Movies. Seeing Thor’s hammer on the credits was a highlight. Great time to be a comicbook geek.
