6 Beloved DC Comics Characters You Should Worry Zack Snyder Will Kill Off Next

He brutally murdered the likes of General Zod and Jimmy Olsen, but who's next on Zack Snyder's hit list? Be afraid, as there's a chance that any one of these six heroes and villains could meet their makers...

As many of you no doubt already know, I really liked Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. There's no denying that it had a few issues, but for me, the shocking death of Jimmy Olsen wasn't among them. A CIA agent posing as a photographer in the DC Films Universe, he wasn't actually named until the Ultimate Edition was released, but a lot of fans were undertandably still upset to see him used like this.

After all, his comic book counterpart is Clark Kent's best friend and a beloved supporting character in the Superman mythos, but after brutally killing off the likes of Jimmy, Jonathan Kent, General Zod, Doomsday, and the Man of Steel himself, who should you be worried Zack Snyder will target next?

With Justice League right around the corner, a look at the filmmaker's potential victims can be found below. Snyder is clearly a massive fan of the source material, but I believe that there's a good chance any one of these characters could end up being taken out. They're not just minor supporting characters either; in fact, I wouldn't be that shocked if another member of the League bites the bullet here...

6. Nightwing

At one point, it was rumoured that Star Wars actor Adam Driver was being eyed for the role of Nightwing in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. The fact that he chose The Force Awakens instead led to that rumour quickly vanishing, while the fan-favourite sidekick turned solo superhero was obviously nowhere to be seen in the divisive release. However, with Justice League set to delve further into the Caped Crusader's world before the release of Ben Affleck's The Batman, is it possible that Dick Grayson could make a surprise appearance?

We haven't heard any casting news supporting that, but with Deathstroke a surprise late addition, who better for that villain to take out than one of the Dark Knight's closest allies? Perhaps we won't get to see this happen on screen, but I really wouldn't put it past Snyder to build in this sort of history after what happened to Jimmy. There are worse ways the groundwork for The Batman could be laid, but fans of Nightwing will obviously be horrified!

5. Darkseid

Rumour has it that Darkseid will appear at the beginning of Justice League during a flashback depicting his battle with humans, Amazons, and Atlanteans. Once he's defeated, the three Mother Boxes will be divided between these very different factions, but what if this sequence concludes with Darkseid's death? Bear in mind that Justice League is no longer a two-part movie, and after the response to both Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Suicide Squad, a sequel is far from guaranteed at this stage regardless of whether or not Warner Bros. has taken fan and critic complaints on board.

As a result, plans to bring Darkseid back could very well have been shelved, with a vengeful Steppenwolf taking his place instead in a one and done adventure. We know from the comic books that Darkseid can be easily resurrected, but I'm definitely beginning to think it will make more sense for Snyder to kill him in this battle rather than having him escape and then come up with a convoluted reason as to why he's not doing his own dirty work.

4. Green Lantern

It might be a familiar face like Hal Jordan or Kilowog or an unknown alien character brought to life with CG, but I definitely think the Green Lantern Corps will end up factoring into Justice League in some way. Assuming we spend some time on Apokolips, it could be that they attempt to take down Steppenwolf and/or Darkseid there or in a flashback to the battle mentioned in the previous slide. However, will Zack Snyder really be able to resist brutally murdering one of these ring slinging superheroes?

After all, having one of them make a cameo appearance would go at least some way in setting up the Green Lantern Corps movie, while killing a member off would help show what a formidable force the League is being tasked with taking down. Who knows, rumours that a Green Lantern will crash to Earth at the end of the movie to warn the team about Darkseid may very well come true, but it will be with their dying words that they do so here. Surely Snyder wouldn't risk incurring the wrath of fans by making that Hal?

3. Cyborg

It's widely believed that the Cyborg movie won't happen because, er, no one really wants a movie about Cyborg. With any luck, theories about that being changed into a big screen adventure for the Teen Titans will be proved correct, but does even that really need the character? Plus, with Rick Famuyiwa no longer directing The Flash, Victor Stone's role in the Scarlet Speedster's solo outing is far from a certainty, and that's why I think he could be the Justice League member who ends up biting the dust in their battle against Steppenwolf.

In the comics, Cyborg is able to hack into Darkseid's tech and ultimately make use of Boom Tubes, so perhaps Snyder could just tease us with the possibility of his demise when he seemingly explodes within one of those and later reappears as one of the villain's prisoners on Apokolips. Throw in the fact that like The Vision having an Infinity Stone in his head makes him a guaranteed target for Thanos that Cyborg's body is made from a Mother Box, and there are a few different ways he could die...

2. Jenny Olsen

It's never been revealed whether or not The Daily Planet's Jenny Olsen is related to the CIA agent killed in the opening few moments of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, but if they are, how much fun would it be if Snyder were to take her out just to infuriate the people who completely lost their sh*t about Jimmy's demise? Don't get me wrong, it was definitely a shame that the photographer was wasted like that, but the reaction from some was hilariously hysterical.

In all seriousness though, when you take a look at the various supporting characters who could be taken out without shaking up the status quo too much, Jenny is a prime candidate. She's only really made a small impact on this world, but her demise could still create a pretty emotional moment for characters like Superman, Lois Lane, and Perry White. Who knows, perhaps the real Jimmy could return at her funeral after being hidden away by the CIA so an agent could take his place on an important mission? Or not.

1. Superman (Again)

It's been said that a Man of Steel movie is in the works, but we still haven't had any sort of official announcement about that. Following his death in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, we already know the hero will return, but what if Snyder follows the comic books by having him return from the grave not quite himself? Perhaps the Superman who initially joins the team will be some sort of evil imposter, and while that may sound a little daft, bear in mind that the director has previously said that we will get a pay off to The Flash's message from the future here.

In that, he warned Batman that he was right about Superman all along, so maybe we'll meet a Superman under the influence of Darkseid who the team has to take out! In fact, we may very well get to see the real Superman take out his own doppelganger in what would be a very unique battle. You might scoff, but stranger things have happened!

Which of these characters do you think Zack Snyder is most likely going to kill off in Justice League? Have we missed any other possible candidates? As always, share your thoughts below.

To be honest, he made the best decisions so far when you look at the characters. And yes, I liked Alexander Luthor.

Here's how they could bring back Jimmy Olsen in the Man of Steel sequel.

I would cast Matt McGorry from How To Get Away With murder.

@Kr08 - Good write up there, but shouldn't it be changed to Clark is in witness protection until potential conspirators are caught? I mean Lex is in prison by the end of that movie. Just trying to cover bases here.

@Kr08 - Was it an open casket funeral at Martha's house? I cant remember because I was half asleep. If it was I have ZERO idea how they bring back Clark Kent and reintroduce him to the world.

@Kr08 - Lex was captured and imprisoned the same night Superman died. Why would Clark need to go into the witness protection program when Lex is already in prison? The issue of Lex knowing everyone's secret identities will also need to be addressed.

@obredaan - Because the richest and most powerful man in the world will have zero influence in prison, right? Whenever Lex was in prison in the comics, he could do whatever he wanted and still had full control of Lex Corp.
