JUSTICE LEAGUE MORTAL Would Have Featured An Epic Battle Between Superman And Wonder Woman

Jay Baruchel was going to play the villainous Maxwell Lord in George Miller's Justice League Mortal and the actor has revealed details on what sounds like an epic brawl between Superman and Wonder Woman.

Justice League Mortal was in development from director George Miller before a writers strike brought the project to a crashing halt. Set to star the likes of Armie Hammer and Common as motion capture versions of characters like Superman and Green Lantern, it would have seen the team go head to head with the villainous Maxwell Lord. However, Jay Baruchel has revealed some interesting new details.

Apparently, Lord would have used his powers to take control of the Man of Steel and pit him against Wonder Woman in a battle which sounds even bigger than the one between Batman and Superman last year! It sounds like a clear winner would have been chosen too as Superman unleashed his powers.

"There’s a scene where Maxwell Lord brainwashes Clark and all of a sudden this guy’s got Superman as a weapon. But in order for me to do this – to get in to a Kryptonian brain – I start bleeding out of every f*cking orifice because it takes that much to get into the head of a Kryptonian. And then I turn him into Red-Eye Superman, and there’s this big a** fight between him and Wonder Woman where he breaks her wrists."

That sounds awesome and would have no doubt been a sight to behold. These days, moviegoers seem to be over the whole hero vs. hero thing, though, but it would be interesting to see Henry Cavill and Gal Gadot go to war with each other! What do you think of these new Justice League Mortal details?

Read the script 4 years ago, and it sounded really, really good. They really had something more than solid going, some sort of mix between Tower of Babel, Crisis on Infinite Earths and Sacrifice. Not sure why the writer's strike killed the project altogether instead of just postponing it.

@Asturgis - The writers strike was one of the reasons it didn't happen but also Chris nolan did not want to batman's on screen at the same time and that had a big influence.

@pitbull76 - Oh, I see, that makes sense. It's too bad, though, the story was really, really good. It could have made for a terrific movie, and I would have been glad to see Hammer take a shot at being the Bat. Still do. I also thing Miller would be a perfect fit for a Justice League movie. Even the Justice League Dark one, maybe even more. One can always dream!

@Asturgis - @pitbull76 -
There was also that Australia was planned as filming location, but since Australian government went back on the promise of 50% tax returns on all production, WB didn't want shoot the film there anymore. With other difficulties the film had, they apparently never really even looked for other filming location.

Armie Hammer was playing Batman, not Superman. It was going to be live action, not motion capture.

@BobbyW - I've heard conflicting reports on whether it was live action or motion capture. How are you sure it was live action?

Interesting! Would this have been preceded by any solo films so they could define their powers.

@Elayem - I don't see why there are not any more costume shots available as they were supposedly very close to shooting.
