JUSTICE LEAGUE "Snyder Cut" Coming To HBO Max In 2021 With Finished Visual Effects; Zack Snyder Details Plans

The Justice League "Snyder Cut" is indeed set to arrive on HBO Max, and director Zack Snyder has now explained in detail what form that will take (it could be a series) and how much work needs to be done.

After Zack Snyder confirmed the news during his Man of Steel watch party, The Hollywood Reporter has shared an in-depth interview with the filmmaker in which he details his plans to bring the "Snyder Cut" of Justice League to HBO Max in 2021.

Warner Bros. Pictures Chairman Toby Emmerich reached out to Snyder last November, and asked him to get the ball rolling.

According to the trade, the form this version of the movie will take still hasn't been decided on; it could be an almost four-hour director's cut or split into six "chapters," but the original post-production crew is being brought in to score, cut, and add finished original visual effects. Cast members are also set to reprise their roles, not to shoot new scenes, but to record extra dialogue.

One source tells the trade that this is likely to cost between $20 million - $30 million, but that's clearly a price Warner Bros. is willing to pay to finally give fans what they wanted and #ReleaseTheSnyderCut.

"It will be an entirely new thing, and, especially talking to those who have seen the released movie, a new experience apart from that movie," Snyder explains, revealing that he's never watched Joss Whedon's version. "You probably saw one-fourth of what I did.

The director admitted that he never believed this would happen. "I always thought it was a thing that in 20 years, maybe somebody would do a documentary and I could lend them the footage, little snippets of a cut no one has ever seen."

A version of the Snyder Cut was shown to Warner Bros. and HBO Max executives in February, and COVID-19 thankfully hasn't slowed down work on getting the movie ready. It is still early days, though, and with a vague 2021 release date, there's clearly a lot of work to be done (as expected, this cut is in pretty rough shape and very much unfinished).

Still, this feels like a huge win for fans, and it's going to be exciting to see how Zack Snyder's Justice League comes together.

@Nebula - Eh, Snyder cut always seemed more likely to me than DD season 4 based on all the evidence. I think Cox could come back, just not the show.

Can't believe they're actually going to pump millions of dollars into a failed, unfinished movie. But hey, this news is certainly extremely surprising, no denying that.
