JUSTICE LEAGUE: Joss Whedon Threatened Gal Gadot's Career And Disparaged WONDER WOMAN's Patty Jenkins On Set

More details about Joss Whedon's misconduct on the set of Justice League's reshoots have been revealed, including the fact that the filmmaker openly threatened Gal Gadot's career over lines of dialogue.

Joss Whedon's Hollywood career is almost certainly over after a recent series of allegations, and things continue to get worse for the filmmaker who went from writing cult favourite TV shows to helming two record-breaking blockbusters for Marvel Studios (2012's The Avengers and its 2015 sequel Avengers: Age of Ultron).

The portrait of Whedon as a bully and an abusive person to work with on the sets of his movie and TV shows is being clearly painted now, and while we've heard pretty much nothing about those type of incidents during his tenure in the MCU, it seems the writer and director chose not to hold back while working on Justice League's reshoots in 2017.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Whedon clashed with all the stars in the movie, including Jeremy Irons. However, Gal Gadot was extremely unhappy and ended up taking her complaints to the then chairman of Warner Bros. She had concerns over Whedon's rewrites, including "issues about her character being more aggressive than her character in Wonder Woman. She wanted to make the character flow from one movie to the next."

When Whedon pushed Gadot to film lines she wasn't on board with, "[he] threatened to harm Gadot's career and disparaged Wonder Woman director Patty Jenkins." One source even tells the trade that, "Joss was bragging that he's had it out with Gal. He told her he's the writer and she's going to shut up and say the lines and he can make her look incredibly stupid in this movie."

Gadot and Jenkins took their issues to Kevin Tsujihara, and it seems that may have gone some way towards resolving the matter. In a statement, Gadot says: "I had my issues with [Whedon] and Warner Bros. handled it in a timely manner."

That's probably as many specifics as we're going to get from the actress, but it's clear now that Whedon created a toxic environment for more than just Ray Fisher.

Why? Well, it could be that it's just the sort of person he is. Whedon was key in shaping what the MCU would become (he certainly brought the now trademark humour into these movies), but what the actors who worked on those projects went through...well, it can't have been pleasant.

With Justice League, Whedon was tasked with fixing the movie, but as we now know, he only made it worse.

Maybe we’d pay Ray a little more attention if he would just say stuff like this, use examples and stuff.

@GameOn - Yeah but Gadot didn't reveal this, THR did.

@abd00bie - Agree, how valid is this? If they wanted Whedon to be cancelled they would've went public and #MeToo him. Jenkins isn't the type to stay quiet either, she called out James Cameron for just saying WW was nothing special. THR has always been hit, miss, or shady so its hard to believe them.

Its odd how he can go from working so well with Disney to being the Harvey Weinstein of WB. Its either exaggerated or Disney just has so much money they can "afford" to hide their dirty laundry.

@mastakilla39 - he openly clashed with Disney though. It’s the reason he stopped doing avengers films.

@mastakilla39 - You're moving goalposts for some reason. You said that it was "odd how he can go from working so well with Disney to being the Harvey Weinstein of WB." I gave you context that substantiates that. The response is not "But everyone does."

Additionally, you tried a false dilemma to conclude that either Joss's behavior is exaggerated or covered up. My response removes that as well but now you're saying none of it matters anyway?

@GameOn -

A lot of people have paid attention to not only what Ray has said but former members of the main cast of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Ray's already given examples in the past but read the article to get more info on that.

Also, this isn't coming from Gadot. It's from a unnamed source.

@mastakilla39 - "Its odd how he can go from working so well with Disney to being the Harvey Weinstein of WB."

Everybody knows the guy had huge problems with Disney regarding Age of Ultron and, probably because of it, he jumped to WB.

The Me Too Moviment was taking care of worse cases at the time. He may have been a mad dictator on set, but he was not sexually harassing actresses or actors on or off set, he was "just" being a massive d*** to them.

A lot of people here in the comments seem to ignore the fact that the entertainment business was (and still is) full of awful accounts that never reaches the public because the ones in the wrong are VERY powerful and the ones in the right don't wanna throw their career down the toilet.

Gal Gadot had leverage. She already had her solo movie. Ray Fischer didn't have all that.

Imagine a guy getting his big break in Hollywood, being the heart of a movie that a huge audience has been waiting for years — and then having all his character arc turn to smoke, reshooting a bunch of his scenes with those dumb jokes and having "Booyah" be his last line in the movie, just to top all that.

@GameOn - It's already been said why he wasn't just saying things out of the woodwork. Gal didn't even reveal this.

@GameOn - so Gal had an issue with "issues about her character being more aggressive than her character in Wonder Woman"
...and yet in the snyder cut she is literally exploding people in a bank in front of children... that's seems a little 'aggressive' to me.
By comparison the Whedon version she was far more toned down.
JonC
JonC - 4/6/2021, 2:13 PM
@oldnoname - he had an issue with the same guy everyone had an issue with at Marvel, not disney, it was perlmutter.
oldnoname
oldnoname - 4/6/2021, 2:24 PM
@JonC - Okay, semantics. Joss Whedon had issues with marvel/disney executives and they were not hushed away. T=It is publicly known. That is the point.

I’m not sure how Whedon made her more violent when she is considerably more violent in the Snyder Cut.

@MrDandy - thats what I was thinking. She's already much more violent in this, not sure he could make it worse.
