KINGSMAN: THE GOLDEN CIRCLE Eyeing $40M+ Domestic Debut Later This Month
WIth Kingsman: The Golden Circle now only a few weeks out, early tracking numbers are coming in and it looks like the long-awaited sequel will have plenty to celebrate when it opens later this month.
Kingsman: The Secret Service was one of the biggest sleeper hits in recent memory, grossing over $414.4 million worldwide, and it's starting to look like its upcoming sequel, Kingsman: The Golden Circle, might just be even bigger.
At the moment, box office pundits are projecting a strong $40 million to $45 million opening weekend (Sept. 22-24) for the Matthew Vaughn-directed sequel, which would place it well ahead of its predecessor's $36.2 million opening back in February 2015. It's also still early, so these numbers could always rise if reviews and word-of-mouth are good.
The film is slated to open against Warner Bros.' The Lego Ninjago Movie, which is currently tracking for a $35 million to $40 million opening, however, with a vastly different target audience, it's unlikely Lego Ninjago's box office collection will affect The Golden Circle all that much, if at all. The more pressing challenge will come the following week when Tom Cruise's critically acclaimed American Made and Sony's Flatliners reboot both arrive in theaters.
So, what do you guys think? Will you be watching on opening weekend? Sound off with your thoughts below!
“Kingsman: The Secret Service" introduced the world to Kingsman - an independent, international intelligence agency operating at the highest level of discretion, whose ultimate goal is to keep the world safe. In "Kingsman: The Golden Circle," our heroes face a new challenge. When their headquarters are destroyed and the world is held hostage, their journey leads them to the discovery of an allied spy organization in the US called Statesman, dating back to the day they were both founded. In a new adventure that tests their agents' strength and wits to the limit, these two elite secret organizations band together to defeat a ruthless common enemy, in order to save the world, something that's becoming a bit of a habit for Eggsy...
