WEREWOLF BY NIGHT Disney+ Halloween Special Rumored To Feature The MCU Debut Of Man-Thing

Could we finally see Man-Thing make his Marvel Cinematic Universe debut? A new rumor points to Dr. Theodore "Ted" Sallis appearing in the upcoming Disney+ Werewolf By Night Halloween Special.

A rumor recently did the rounds which claimed that a second Marvel Studios special featuring Man-Thing might be the works for Disney+, and we may now have a little more to go on.

According to Cosmic Circus, Dr. Theodore "Ted" Sallis, aka Man-Thing, is actually set to make his Marvel Cinematic Universe debut in the upcoming Werewolf By Night Halloween special, which commenced production in Georgia this month. Details are few and far between, but the creature will reportedly be at least partially brought to life via practical effects.

The source has been spot on with Marvel-related rumors in the past, so this definitely warrants paying some attention to. That said, it's worth keeping in mind that several online scoopers reported that The Werewolf would cameo in Moon Knight (he could still show up in next week's finale, but it seems unlikely).

Man-Thing first appeared in Savage Tales #1 back in 1971, and while the character is often accused of being a rip off of DC's Swamp-Thing, he actually made his debut a few months before the Earth Elemental. The character previously appeared in live-action for a truly abysmal 2005 movie.

The Halloween Special - which may not wind up being titled Werewolf by Night - is being directed by Michael Giacchino, and stars Gael Garcia Bernal as the lycanthropic antihero. He'll be joined by The Nevers actress Laura Donnelly as Elsa Bloodstone.

@Waddles - it's from in the mouth of madness, an underrated horror flick

@MuadDib - like MAN-THING, the Ben Grimm from a different world where humanity never took over but rather the rocks gained intelligence and evolved, and on a ROCKet ship in space is hit by comic radiation and transformed into Man-Thing, a rock who's surface has taken on properties of human flesh.

They came out with a bunch of horror types around then. Werewolf by Night, Morbius, Man Thing etc. I loved those books especially ManThing. Such a strange concept having an uncommunicative main character who just kind of shambles around and reacts to stuff.

@blitzkreg - man-thing was actually created 1 month earlier than swampy.

And their power set is very different. Man-thing’s powers aren’t as nature and green oriented as swampy.

@blitzkreg - Swamp Thing's first appearance was May of 1972. Man-Thing's first appearance was November of 1971.

Man-Thing came first.

With the whole retreat to plan out the next 10 years I wonder if Secret Wars is part of that? Surely they'd like to get everyone back before they are all too old.

@HydraB0b - Pretty sure the next 10 heavily involves mutants, and maybe secret wars is part of it - perhaps the event even features OG avengers.

@HydraB0b - In 8 years if they do secret wars the technology to de-age the OG 6 will be perfected. Look at they did with Hugh in Logan when they introduced his younger clone

@HydraB0b - I do think Secret Wars will be the next big play. Think it has the right balance between cosmic and multiversal and bringing old characters back.

After that I wanna see Galactus though.

I don't know much about Man-Thing beyond that I think he has a very unique horror-esque design that makes him standout from Swamp Thing. I look forward to see him appear if those are the plans.

I never read Man-Thing comics growing up, but always loved the aesthetic. Would love to see it in live action.

@Shivermetimbers - The comics by Steve Gerber are absolutely top notch 70's Marvel. The man was a genius. The best storyline has a geriatric masculinity-obsessed axe murderer kill an Alice Cooper/David Bowie wannabe in the swamp before joining forces with a Karen to lead a biology textbook-burning riot. The Infernal Man-Thing series, a posthumously published sequel to issue #12 about a suicidal advertising writer being attacked by phantoms, is THE series I recommend to literally every one of my friends.

The 90's series by JM DeMatteis and Liam Sharp has some of the most beautiful artwork I've ever seen. More cosmic and psychological horror-oriented. Starring Man-Thing's scarred ex-wife Ellen, who betrayed him to AIM and was actually in Iron Man 3.

Avoid the RL Stine series. It's abysmal.

Might as well steal the swamp spot back. DC keeps failing.

So this team so far(Midnight Sunz):

Man-Thing
Elsa Bloodstone
Werewolf by Night
Moon Knight
Blade
Doctor Strange
(Am i forgetting anyone?)

Johnny Blaze and Berthenal's Punisher should join this team.

@Dope21 - take out punisher, he fights crime not supernatural threats
PicolasCage

@Dope21 - you're forgetting Black Knight.

Agatha Harkness, Scarlet Witch, Clea are all contenders too. And Ghost Rider is guaranteed to be on it as well
