We're just over 24 hours away from Marvel Studios' D23 panel as we write this, and excitement among MCU fans has begun reaching stratospheric levels.
Kevin Feige pulled out all the stops at this year's San Diego Comic-Con, dropping tonnes of reveals and even a few big trailers. D23 might not be quite as busy for Marvel Studios seeing as they have to share the stage with Star Wars and 20th Century Studios, but we do expect a lot of big news to land tomorrow.
In the meantime, there are an awful lot of rumors to be found online about the announcements we can expect. From the Fantastic Four cast to Spider-Man's MCU return, if even half of these wild claims are true, it'll be one heckuva morning in Anaheim tomorrow.
See what's rumored to be on the way by reading through the feature below!
8. Unexpected Sequel News
Eternals scored poor reviews from critics (and many fans), but there was a lot about the film that worked. By the time the credits rolled, it was apparent Marvel Studios has big plans for these characters and it doesn't look like a low Rotten Tomatoes score will deter them from continuing with those.
Rumor has it an Eternals sequel will be announced at D23, though we don't know if filmmaker Chloé Zhao will be back at the helm.
The film will presumably pick up where the last one left off, following the remaining Eternals as they're joined by Eros in a quest to find Arishem and their friends. Hopefully, a title and cast announcement will offer a clear indication of what comes next.
7. Deadpool 3's Title
Reliable sources suggest Deadpool 3 is getting an official title and release date tomorrow, and it's about f***ing time.
The film has a script and director in Shawn Levy, and cameras will surely begin rolling no later than next year. Marvel Studios still has some gaps to fill in when it comes to the films that will make up Phase 6, and it's essential that the Merc with the Mouth be part of those plans in time for Avengers: Secret Wars.
If we do get a title, we'd like to think Kevin Feige will also share at least a few casting or story details to tide us over until we learn what role Deadpool will have in the MCU.
6. Henry Cavill Defects To The MCU
Warner Bros. and Henry Cavill appear unable to reach an agreement about Superman's big screen future, with it unclear whether the actor even wants to reprise the role after being humiliated in Justice League.
With so much uncertainty and a real lack of direction at Warner Bros. Discovery, it's sounding a lot like Marvel Studios has managed to poach Cavill. Rumours point to him playing Squadron Supreme leader Hyperion, while other scoopers claim he'll portray another important character from Jonathan Hickman's New Avengers run.
Black Bolt? Captain Britan? We'll see.
5. Secret Invasion Trailer
The consensus is that a trailer for Secret Invasion will be released over the weekend, no great shocker when it's the first Disney+ TV series coming from Marvel Studios in 2023.
Earlier this week, Funko revealed a Pop Vinyl figure featuring Samuel L. Jackson's new look as Nick Fury, making this weekend an ideal time to follow that by pulling back the curtain on one of Phase 5's opening chapters. Hopefully, that will confirm Secret Invasion isn't as small-scale as we've been expecting.
It should go without saying that we want some news on who those big-name cast members are playing too!
4. Meet The Fantastic Four
The trades recently reported that WandaVision director Matt Shakman has been tapped to helm Fantastic Four in place of Jon Watts after the Spider-Man: No Way Home filmmaker departed the project.
A casting announcement is similarly expected, with John Krasinski still said to be the frontrunner to play Mister Fantastic. Some scoopers claim that isn't the case, while others believe he's beaten the likes of Jamie Dornan and Penn Badgley to the role. Jodie Comer is expected to play Sue Storm, though there's still no word on plans for the Human Torch and The Thing.
A cast announcement would be the best possible way to cap off this D23 panel, and we've got everything crossed for Doctor Doom to show up along with Marvel's First Family.
3. Marvel Holiday Special News
As expected, Marvel Studios will likely pull back the curtain on both the Werewolf by Night Halloween Special and The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special at D23.
Trailers for both are likely to be released, along with premiere dates. We're hearing for October 26 for Werewolf by Night's MCU debut, with December 21 or December 25 the most likely dates for the return of the Guardians. The clock is ticking, so now would be a good time to start building excitement for two potentially very important chapters in this MCU mythos.
That's not all we anticipate being revealed for Disney+, but first, a big return...
2. Spider-Man Returns
Spider-Man is owned by Sony Pictures, but the expectation is that the web-slinger will remain part of the MCU moving forward.
Tom Holland played coy when asked about his future last year, though we're sure both Sony and Marvel Studios have thrown as much money as necessary at the actor to convince him to suit up again. Some believe we'll get a Spider-Man 4 announcement for 2024, while others are saying that his next MCU appearance will be confirmed.
If we had to choose, Spider-Man will be part of 2024's Fantastic Four reboot.
1. Echo First Look
Shooting has wrapped on Echo, and we're hearing a trailer could be part of Marvel Studios' D23 plans. That would be a little surprising, particularly as Daredevil still hasn't shown up in She-Hulk: Attorney at Law yet.
It's probably more likely than Ironheart, though Loki season 2 may well be a possibility (especially with rumblings that Cavill's Hyperion could be part of both that film and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania). If there are any film trailers, then that threequel is a contender too.
These are all just rumors, but tomorrow looks set to be a very exciting day and you'll want to tune into all the action here on ComicBookMovie.comstarting at 10am PT.
