MARVEL ZOMBIES Live-Action Project Rumored To Be In Development Following Recent WHAT IF...? Debut

Last week's What If...? introduced us to the Marvel Cinematic Universe's version of the Marvel Zombies, and their creator, Mark Millar, has suggested that there are live-action plans for the undead heroes.

While it was Robert Kirkman who was responsible for that first Marvel Zombies series alongside artist Sean Phillips, Mark Millar and Greg Land actually introduced the undead heroes in the pages of Ultimate Fantastic Four. Now, in a recent newsletter sent out to fans, Millar suggested that a live-action project of some sort could be in the works following last week's What If...? episode.

Sharing his thoughts on the MCU debut of the Marvel Zombies, Millar noted (via CBR) that "(if my sources are correct) a little live-action Marvel Zombies further down the line, but you never heard that from me."

This is far from confirmed, but between his history with the characters and the fact he has Hollywood contacts, there's no reason to believe Millar couldn't have heard about Marvel Studios' plans. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is one likely destination for the zombified versions of these characters, but it's entirely possible they could appear in their own movie or series.

Either way, a live-action Marvel Zombies project is undeniably exciting, and the response to "What If...Zombies?!" has been overwhelmingly positive thus far.

For now, it's definitely best to take this with a pinch of salt, but when Marvel Studios does unveil its Phase 5 slate, it would certainly be pretty cool to see this spinoff up there! As for enlisting actors for these zombie heroes, the sort of prosthetics we've seen in The Walking Dead, for example, likely means Marvel Studios could get away with not bringing everyone back.

What direction would you like to see this Marvel Zombies project head in?

All of the zombie action I found to be really well done

@BlackBeltJones - most of it was past the sell by date. Except Thanos’ kids and the good guys that got on the menu.

@BlackBeltJones - 1. Mark Millar talks all kinds of nonsense, so take this with a massive grain of salt.

2. If it's not Rated R it's pointless

Hard pass. I don't see the point.

Feige mate if you need something to do, I'm still over here waiting for live action Silver Surfer. Then you can do whatever with zombies.

Not really needed imo. I could see a Marvel zombies universe (or the what if one) cameo-ing in Doc Strange 2.

Would be nice to see them as the leading role/protagonist like in the comics, instead of the way they did it in the What If episode

Hard pass from me. If it's a multi-verse film, fine, but if it's a whole film...too close to the MCU jumping the shark. Mythology? Works because of Thor. Cosmic? We have Guardians/Captain Marvel. Gritty street level? Bring Daredevil into the MCU. Mysticism? Strange/Wanda/etc. We definitely have diverse settings/plots without going to zombies.

when things get leaked that genuinely aren't supposed to be, things tend to buckle.

I just need to see a sequel to the episode of "What If ... Zombies?" Will the Zombie Thanos snap his fingers to create a zombie universe or will our surviving boys use the gauntlet to heal all the infected on earth?

@Repian - Thank you for not calling that What If episode Marvel Zombies! That was nothing like Marvel Zombies.

100% want this. Love anything Halloween related, and even tho I haven’t watched many zombie movies I am intrigued by the genre.
