There have been rumblings for several years now that Marvel Studios is developing a Midnight Suns movie revolving around the MCU's supernatural heroes.

It may have taken a big step forward recently, however, as scooper @MyTimeToShineH is claiming that Kevin Feige is keen on filmmaker Fede Álvarez taking the helm of the project.

He's no stranger to horror after directing Evil Dead, Don't Breathe, and the upcoming Alien: Romulus. He also wrote Don't Breathe 2 and penned the story for 2022's Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Given the positive buzz surrounding the next Alien movie, this rumour makes a lot of sense.

Interestingly, Werewolf by Night director and regular MCU composer Michael Giacchino is also said to be an option after his impressive work with the Marvel Studios Special Presentation.

The Midnight Suns, or Midnight Sons as they were then known, debuted in the early 1990s. Dealing with horror, occult, and supernatural elements, the tile explored a darker corner of the Marvel Universe.

The team typically consists of characters who are involved in battling supernatural threats, including Ghost Rider, Blade, Morbius, Doctor Strange, Werewolf by Night, Hannibal King, and Jennifer Kale.

"No. Look. A lot of those movies are cool and audiences are going and watching them," Álvarez said in 2016 about previously being in talks with Marvel Studios. "It’s just as a director it’s harder to have your vision in those, if you go and do a Marvel movie."

"At some point we were in conversations and...they already figured it out. They’ve figured out the style. They’ve figured out the way they shoot them. They’ve figured out the colors, the humor. What would I do? I enjoy a lot more freedom than that. I don’t know," the filmmaker continued. "Eventually I might. And it depends on probably the characters in the stories."

"But just something about my job as a director that I really enjoy is creating my own thing. It’s trying to do my own style when I shoot it and set the tone myself...Evil Dead was a challenge in that aspect."

In the MCU, there are several characters who could make up the Midnight Suns, including Moon Knight, Clea, Black Knight, and Man-Thing. However, with the next Avengers movies fast approaching, it's hard to say whether there will be time to introduce this team before Secret Wars.

Who do you think should helm Marvel Studios' Midnight Suns? Let us know in the comments section below.
