We've been hearing about a possible sequel to Tim Burton's classic horror comedy, Beetlejuice, for a very long time, and we finally got word that the project had officially entered development towards the end of 2022.

Updates have been few and far between since, but we now have an intriguing new casting rumor to share.

Several sources have indicated that Sadie Sink (Stranger Things, The Whale) has joined the cast. We don't have any details on which character she'd play, but it's expected to be one of the lead roles.

No word on whether Burton will return to direct, but both Michael Keaton and Winona Ryder are set to reprise their respective roles as the titular "bio exorcist" and Lydia Deetz. Alec Baldwin is currently mired in legal troubles after the tragic shooting on the set of Rust, but we may also see Gena Davis back as Barbara Maitland.

Rememory and Marvel's Runaways scribe Mike Vukadinovich was hired to pen a new draft of the script back in 2017, but it sounds like the studio will be starting from scratch with a brand-new story. As far as we know, Seth Grahame-Smith and David Katzenberg are still on board as producers.

As cool as it would be to get the whole gang back together for another Beetlejuice movie, some feel too much time has passed and they should let this particular ghost with the most rest in peace. What do you guys think? Drop us a comment down below.

Sink was recently rumored to have been cast as Songbird in the upcoming Thunderbolts movie, and scooper Daniel Richtman now claims to have confirmed that she will indeed feature in an upcoming MCU project - but not necessarily Thunderbolts.

Wow the people’s collective terror at the thought of Vekna killing her combined with that song, REALLY put her wayyy ahead in terms of fame. Happy for her!

@TheWalkingCuban - I thought she did great in Stranger Things, and I like her a lot more than insufferable Millie Bobby Brown. So I'm happy for her.

@TheWalkingCuban - While the song was overplayed, I actually think she is the strongest of the child actors on the show. This is one case where i’d like to see her in more things and I think her hype is deserved.

@mountainman - is 20 considered a child?

TheWalkingCuban - 2/12/2023, 10:22 AM
@mountainman - well, it was overplayed in real life, I won’t blame the show for that, social media makes things go viral, but yeah, she’s talented

@CorndogBurglar - Yeah MBB is incredibly overrated. Sadie is an actually amazing actress who's gone beyond Stranger Things and really showed her range in a bunch of things.

@FilmGuy7878 - I don't mind Millie Bobby Brown's acting. It's the way she carries herself outside of her acting. She's just kind of a glory hogging bitch from what I've seen.

@CorndogBurglar - Yeah that's what I've seen as well. A lot of people want her for Kitty Pryde and I personally can't see it at all.

She has to be the new girl Thor.

Then the PC MCU can finish turning every Avenger into a young girl or lady.

Then the next universal Armageddon saving 2 movie blow out will be when some guy sees a group of them shopping at Claire's boutique in the next to last mall on Earth and says, "Can one of you chicks make me a sandwich?"

@Reginator -

While I do live in the South(Texas), I can't make myself say it that way.

But if it's tender brisket with spicy BBQ sauce, jalapenos, & onions on Texas Toast, I'll call it whatever the broad wants me to.

@DocSpock - they already have a girl Thor, both Jane (who's dead) and gorrs daughter (who isnt). Other than girl Thor, we also have a female hawkeye, iron man, and hulk. What we're missing is a female captain america.

@Origame - We need a male Black Widow.

Michael Keaton‘s aging since the original movie would be covered up by his Beetlejuice make up. That said, since they are ghosts Gina Davis and Alec Baldwin‘s characters as ghosts should not have aged. Of course they could handle that with CGI but it seems a bit much. If this is being done it would be done best if Tim Burton was directing. We’ll just have to see.
CorndogBurglar
CorndogBurglar - 2/12/2023, 7:22 AM
@RolandD - I suppose they don't have to use Gena Davis and Alef Baldwin's characters. I would imagine Sadie Sink would be playing a new character and she would fill the Winona Ryder-type role while Winona Ryder plays something of a mentor to her. And there would new ghost characters that aren't Gina Davis and Alex Baldwin.

Her and Jamie Campbell Bower stole the show in S4 of Stranger Things, she's very talented. Whatever she ends up doing, I'll be looking forward to seeing it.
CorndogBurglar
CorndogBurglar - 2/12/2023, 7:26 AM
@LeonNova - I actually feel like Sadie Sink, Maya Hawke, and Joe Keery's characters are by far the best in the entire show. Stranger Things is an interesting show. It's something I normally wouldn't watch, and I only did watch it because my wife and daughter wanted me to. It took a good 2 seasons for me to finally come around to it, and it's mostly because I really like those characters and actors.

@CorndogBurglar - I’ll agree with those three, but man was I a fan of Eddie too this season.

It is somewhat sad to me how the main four boys have gotten lost in the shuffle over the years.

Honestly, I'd be down for a sequel to "Beetlejuice". I thought the first one was great. A really unique idea and well written, directed, and of course the score by Elfman, so as long as most of that original creative team returns then I'm game.

Michael Keaton returning is a must for me, and as many have noted, with the makeup he would be fine (even CGI de-aging if needed, but I doubt it would be). Winonoa coming back would also be cool, especially as she's been experiencing a bit of a career resurgence with "ST". Perhaps this new movie could be about BJ finally escaping Limbo and coming back to find Lydia only to find her older and married with kids living a normal life, and he wreaks havoc on that, claiming that she's his rightful wife. Could be fun. We'll see...

@StSteven - And then he goes to Hawaii.
FilmGuy7878
FilmGuy7878 - 2/12/2023, 11:35 AM
@StSteven - I honestly want them to do an adaptation of the Beetlejuice musical than make a sequel to the OG movie. They are already making a Wicked movie and a Mean Girls musical movie so why not.

Evan Peters as BJ. Caroline Konstnar as Lydia. Make it happen WB.
StSteven
StSteven - 2/12/2023, 3:20 PM
@ObserverIO - Keaton would rock the shit out of the Hawaiian shirts as BJ. AND, stay with me here, what if WHAT IF Lydia takes the kids to Hawaii thinking that she's escaping BJ only for one of her kids to find an ancient tiki god totem washed up on the shore which is in fact how BJ is released. I'm talking straight up Brady Bunch special here. I'd watch the shit out of that.

StSteven - 2/12/2023, 3:33 PM
@FilmGuy7878 - I was a theater person (among other things) in high school, so I'm always down for a good musical (I'm STILL pissed that we never got to do "Jesus Christ Superstar" because it was too controversial at the time). And that's some good casting BTW.

The only thing that springs to mind with that, however, is depending on how much of an actual "musical" "Joker 2" is, we end up getting something kinda close, minus the supernatural aspect and the comedy. I mean, Phoenix's Joker does kinda look like BJ, and if Lydia were dealing she's kinda look like Harley (she already was pretty pale and gothy in the original "BJ", so it's not a huge stretch.
FilmGuy7878
FilmGuy7878 - 2/12/2023, 3:53 PM
@StSteven - Yeah I'm a massive theater fan and I'm honestly really hyped for Joker 2 specifically for the musical aspects.
StSteven
StSteven - 2/12/2023, 4:26 PM
@FilmGuy7878 - Yeah, I got into theater at my high school when I was a sophomore (although I've always been something of a performer having started taking guitar lessons when I was 6 and was like the big act of my grade school's talent show for my last 4 years). In high school I was in "Peter Pan", "Anything Goes", and "The Fiddler on the Roof". My favorite role was in "AG" where I played the main character's (Billy if I recall") boss who is a crusty old dude who gets sea-sick at the beginning of the show and is drunk for the rest of it. So I really got to ham it up and apparently I was so convincing after the shows people would ask me if I was really drunk.

We also did this thing called "Winter One Acts" which were student written and directed plays which we did for an intimate audience where we turned the stage around and had bleachers for the audience on the back side of the stage. Cool idea. My favorite role in that was when I play an art critic in a (comedic) play named "Bufred Bizarre", which based on the way I played him was a real nutcase as I did every line in either a different accent or different impersonation (i.e. French->Elvis->British->George Bush->Irish-> etc.).

However, my favorite experience with all that was writing and directing my own 1-act when I was a senior called "Marsha Brady in Hell" which was based on Shaw's "Don Juan in Hell" (I was reading a lot of existentialism at the time). I had characters like Marsha (of course), Satan, Elvis, Apollo, Shaw and Sarte, etc. and it was about the meaning of life kinda stuff. Pretty heady stuff for high school I guess. But I had fun, and as long as I enjoyed myself that's all that matters in theater, right? 😉
