Earlier this month, it was widely reported that, after an extensive four-month shoot, Universal Pictures' upcoming reboot of The Mummy had wrapped principal photography, but as it turns out, the team had only completed the London segment of their lengthy schedule.
After filming a number of high-intensity scenes with Tom Cruise earlier this week, the Mummy team has now shifted their base of operations to the African nation of Namibia where it will spend the final two weeks of production and presumably film the introduction of Sofia Boutella's titular villain and/or possibly the film's epic climax. Also, thanks to Cruise's co-star Annabelle Wallis, we have our first official behind-the-scenes photo of the cast on-set in Namibia, including our first real look at Jake Johnson & Courtney B. Vance's characters, who both seem to have a military background of some sort. We don't want to read too much into it, but it looks like there may have been some truth to that early rumor of the military accidentally awakening the classic monster villain.
Check out the shot of Tom Cruise, Annabelle Wallis, Jake Johnson, and Courtney B. Vance below:
Plus, here's a recent photo of Cruise on set as he runs into some undead trouble in a double-decker bus, courtesy of Tom Cruise Blog. You can check out more photos on their page.
Tom Cruise headlines a spectacular, all-new cinematic version of the legend that has fascinated cultures all over the world since the dawn of civilization: The Mummy.
Thought safely entombed in a crypt deep beneath the unforgiving desert, an ancient queen (Sofia Boutella of Kingsman: The Secret Service and Star Trek Beyond) whose destiny was unjustly taken from her is awakened in our current day, bringing with her malevolence grown over millennia and terrors that defy human comprehension.
From the sweeping sands of the Middle East through hidden labyrinths under modern-day London, The Mummy brings a surprising intensity and balance of wonder and thrills in an imaginative new take that ushers in a new world of gods and monsters.
The Mummy features:
Director: Alex Kurtzman
Tom Cruise as Tyler Colt
Annabelle Wallis as Jenny Halsey
Sofia Boutella as The Mummy
Jake Johnson in an undisclosed role
Marwan Kenzari in an undisclosed role
Courtney B. Vance as an Army Colonel
Russell Crowe as Dr. Henry Jekyll/Mr. Hyde
