Tom Cruise's THE MUMMY Adds JURASSIC WORLD & NEW GIRL Star Jake Johnson
Hot on the heels of yesterday's casting news, Universal's upcoming Tom Cruise-led reboot of The Mummy has now added New Girl star & Jurassic World scene-stealer Jake Johnson!
The cast of 2017's The Mummy, the first installment in Universal's planned Monster Movie Universe, seems to be shaping up quite nicely as they're in the midst of adding another strong piece to their growing ensemble.
The Hollywood Reporter has learned that Jake Johnson, the Jurassic World scene-stealer and star of FOX's hit comedy New Girl, is currently in talks to join Tom Cruise (Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation) in the upcoming Alex Kurtzman-directed reboot. He'll play a member of the military, a role that is said to have been written specifically for him.
Not much is known about the film's story, but THR once again confirms that it will be set in present day and that Cruise's character will be a former special forces soldier. Kingsman: The Secret Service breakout Sofia Boutella will portray the titular Mummy and yesterday, it was reported that Peaky Blinders star Annabelle Wallis is in talks to play the female lead, an archaeologist. Jon Spaihts (Doctor Strange) is penning the script.
Johnson, best known for his hysterical work on New Girl and for opening Paddock 9 in Jurassic World, should also be familiar to fans from his roles in a variety of features, including A Very Harold & Kumar 3D Christmas, No Strings Attached, 21 Jump Street, Safety Not Guaranteed, Drinking Buddies, The Lego Movie, Neighbors, & his leading role in Let's Be Cops.
