The news that Ava DuVernay would be directing an adaption of The New Gods for Warner Bros, certainly came as a surprise to many people. While that initial report was very light on actual details, it did reveal that the studio would be looking to hire a screenwriter that would work closely alongside the director, in developing and crafting the film.

It's now been revealed that Kario Salem, will be said screenwriter. While Salem is perhaps more commonly known as an actor, he is an occasional and accomplished writer, who won an Emmy for Outstanding Writing for a Miniseries or TV Movie for the film Don King: Only in America in the late '90s.  He also served a co-writer on the 2001 DeNiro and Marlon Brando film The Score, as well as the 2012 biographical film Chasing Mavericks.

This news is almost as surprising and bizarre as that initial reveal, and with very little other news or information surrounding the film, there's no indication how or when it will all actually come together. If subsequent reveals are as left of field as these revelations however, then this will certainly be an interesting project to follow.

What do you think? Are you interested in DuVernay's The New Gods? What do you think of WB's choice of Kario Salem as screenwriter? What do you want to see in the film? Leave your thoughts below.

I never thought Guardians of the Galaxy would be made so I’m very optimistic about this.

@WruceBayne - two different studios, two different reputations

@SageMode - Yeah. One has three great films and two good films that became terrible films due to studio interference. The other has seven exceptional films and the rest are OK to terrible. Still, they don't have a reputations for awful studio interference. So there are positives to both.

@SisterSunday52 - you're passing off your opinion as facts, which doesn't really help you, considering how the opposite can be proven with a simple Google search.

"In the 8 years since Mr. Stark announced himself as Iron Man, the number of noted enhanced persons has grown exponentially. And during the same period, the number of potentially world-ending events has risen at a commissive rate

I'm saying there maybe a causality. Our very strength invites challenge. Challenge incites conflict. And conflict... breeds catastrophe. Oversight. Oversight is not an idea that could be dismissed out-of-hand."

Change a few words and you would think the vision was marvel talking about the other comic book studios

@MyCoolYoung - in no way am I against more cbms it's just... DC needs to slow down and think their universe thru. The whole director driven universe they thought they were going for wasn't good from a connected universe narrative perspective.

Get a plan, then execute that plan. Stop greenlighting movies then coming up with the universe after that.
