13 Days of Halloween Day 8: Future of Godzilla

My thoughts on the future of Godzilla.

I have to admit, I'm dissappointed in my last one. So, today I've decided to discuss another more in dept topic. Halloween is about monsters, and in this one, I'm discussing the king of them all: Godzilla. We all know Legendary Pictures is releasing their Godzilla on May 16, 2014. But after that, what's next? Today, I'm discussing the future of the franchise itself. Basically, I'm listing future films that I know fans want to see. There won't be many, but I'll be more in dept with this one then in my last article. Let's begin.

1. The Cancelled Projects

A lot of franchises have cancelled projects, and Godzilla is no exception to that. Toho threw out a lot of ideas in the past, mainly in the Showa series. Some good ideas, others downright ridiculous (Godzilla vs. Batman). But the ones seen here seem to be the most popular amongst fans. The ones featured are: Godzilla vs. Redmoon, Godzilla vs. The Space Monsters: Earth Defense Directive, Godzilla vs. Gargantua, and Godzilla vs. Bagan. GvB is without a doubt the most popular out of the four. Toho may have scrapped these ideas, but they should really consider them. Why? They're all good ideas and fans would see them if they got made. On a side note, one that is not seen here+ but would be a great idea is Godzilla vs. The Devil. With today's effects, these creations would look great on the big screen.

Godzilla vs. King Kong remake

This is one movie that really needs to be made. Toho tried to do back in the 90's but it never saw the light of day. In 2005, King Kong got another remake by Peter Jackson. It's actually my favourite remake of all time. With Godzilla coming back in 2 years, a remake would be a good idea for a sequel. But the problem is who should direct it? Peter Jackson has too much respect for Kong to turn him into a electric absorbing ape like Toho did in the 1962 original. Gareth Edwards wouldn't be a bad option, but we need to see how he does with the new Godzilla first. As much as we'd love to see a remake, it'll be a long time before it dose happen. We can only hope Toho, Universal, and Legendary Pictures will come together and make this.

Godzilla vs. Gamera

Honestly, who wouldn't pay to see this? Japan's two best known monsters in the same movie would be a dream come true. Now, what's interesting is that some wouldn't want themt to fight throughout the whole movie. One idea is that they do fight for the first half and the other half they team up against an enemy that would kill them if they fought it alone. I think that would be the best way to do this film. That way, fans of both can be satisfied in the end. Only problem is, there really is no enemy that would require them to team up. With that said, Toho and Daiei would need to come up with a new creation or better yet, let them fight Cthulhu. That would be one enemy that they'd definitely need to team up against.

Godzilla vs. Cloverfeild

Ever since Cloverfield came out in 2008, this battle has been thought of. What's interesting is that the monster, dubbed Clover, was just a infant. The real one could be who knows how big, and thus making it more of a challange to Godzilla. This would also be a good sequel idea to 2008's Cloverfield. Should it happen, would Godzilla fight the monster from the 2008 film, or possible something bigger then that?

Godzilla vs. Gorgo

There's actually something interesting about this. According to IMBd, this did happen, directed by John Carpenter. The mistake by most is that it isn't a real movie that came out in theaters. It was a mear short film and nothing more. That dosen't stop the possibility of an actual film on the big screen. It may sound a bit strange, but I'd love to see Carpenter's take on Godzilla. He impressed me with his work on The Thing back in 1982. He certainly knows how to handle a scince fiction movie, so I wouln't mind if he gave this a try. But since Gorgo hasn't been in the media for a long time, we won't see this anytime soon.

Godzilla meets The Avengers

Bet you all didn't expect this, did you? I know I said Godzilla vs. Batman was a ridiculous idea, but I had a reason. It's a pretty unfair match, but the Avengers do have a few more upperhands. Ant Man, Thor, Hulk and the Helicarrier. I actually wrote the script for this and did send it to Marvel Studios. I have yet to get a response from them, and I'm not sure when I will. I'll answer any questions about this idea.

Well, those are a few movies that I'd like to see in the Godzilla franchise in the future. Let's just hope Legendary's Godzilla is good. After that, I can safely say Toho will continue Godzilla. Hope you all like this better then my last one. I hate the last one too, so you're not alone in that. Tommorrow, I'm giving my thoughts on a remake of one of the best 80's slasher films. No, it isn't one that's already out.

Godzilla vs. Batman would be sweet. It's not that ridiculous. Godzilla attack Gotham and Batman help the US army to take him down.
