BOX OFFICE: TRANSCENDENCE Flops; CAPTAIN AMERICA To Battle RIO 2 For #1 Spot...Again!

Last week, Captain America: The Winter Soldier exceeded expectations by beating Rio 2 to the top spot, and the two movies look set to battle it out again this weekend due to the fact that Wally Pfister's Transcendence is the latest flop for The Lone Ranger's Johnny Depp. Check it out!

Based on the trailers and cast, Transcendence looked set to be a hit. However, a wave of negative reviews for Wally Pfister's (the DP of The Dark Knight Trilogy) directorial debut have resulted in a disappointing $850,000 debut at midnight showings. Now, the movie looks set to be yet ANOTHER flop for former box office draw Johnny Depp as The Hollywood Reporter reveals that the $100 million movie may not even be able to reach $20 million during this Easter weekend. There is a chance however that it could perform better overseas. Either way, that leaves the #1 spot in North America up for grabs with Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Rio 2 each set to battle it out as they did previously. The latter is again tipped for the top spot with $24 million, but analysts predicted last week that the Marvel sequel would come in at second place and were quickly proven wrong, so Captain America could be at #1 for a third straight weekend!
