Vertical Entertainment has released the first trailer for Son of South ahead of its release in Select Theaters, VOD, and Digital on February 5, 2021.

Executive produced by legendary filmmaker Spike Lee, the film stars Lucas Till (X-Men: First Class), Lex Scott Davis (Training Day), Lucy Hale (Fantasy Island), Cedric The Entertainer (Power), and Julia Ormond (The Walking Dead: World Beyond). Barry Alexander Brown wrote the screenplay alongside Bob Zellner, while he also directs.

In Son of South, a grandson of a Klansman comes of age during the early 60's in the deep south and eventually joins the Civil Rights Movement. Based on Bob Zellner's autobiography 'The Wrong Side of Murder Creek.'

This looks like an extremely timely, relevant movie, despite it being set in the 1960s, and with that incredible cast, we definitely can't wait to check this one out. Son of South had its world premiere at the American Black Film Festival on August 26, 2020, and it was received positively.

With little to nothing coming out over the next few months, it's great to have a hard-hitting story like this one to delve into, and if the trailer is any indication, it's a movie with a lot to say that we can all learn from.

Erm, WTF has this got to do with comics?

@Tasmaniac - Lucas Til from X-men First Class. beyond that, nothing. Although, I am curious if Cedric the Entertainer is playing Martin Luther King, Jr.

I agree, this shouldn't be on this site. Show me a comic, ANY comic that this is based on and I'll rescind my comment.

I've been here a lot longer than my actual profile and I remember editors had to prove there were Chucky (killer doll) comics when 'Bride' or 'Seed' was reported on here, and it was explained that even if it had only ONE comic - even a comic adaptation of the film in question - then it qualified.

I understand there have been a few exceptions the last few years based on comic-booky type content within a film, but this seems WAY off base for this site.

Wouldn't be against Lucy Hale being in a Marvel or DC movie.
