Marvel is offering retailers a limited variant of Fear Itself #6 featuring a cover by Ed McGuinness. The catch is that retailers must send the covers of 50 first print Flashpoint spinoff titles published by DC Comics.

Furthermore, those that participate will also receive significant discounts on future Marvel comics. Wow, I'm a little shocked Marvel is trying something like this but looking at the offer from a financial perspective it's brilliant. After my initial shock I realized this wasn't the first time Marvel has tried something like this. The program is called "Comics for Comics" and aims to let retailers turn unsold comics into rare variants. Back in January 2010, Marvel had a similar program for retailers where they could send 50 comic books for a limited edition Siege #3 Deadpool Variant. In both cases, the variant covers being offered are a little underwhelming, making it seem that Marvel is implying that 50 DC Comics are only worth a single marginal Marvel product. Do you agree with Marvel's latest PR tactics?
