If you happen to check out this September's issue of Entertainment Weekly, you might just see under News and Notes This summers Winners and Losers. The question is where do our beloved CBM's fall into these categories. Well,, IMO there really shouldn't be any surprised here, but lets start off with
THE WINNERS
THOR
Captain America TFA
Rise of The Planet of The Apes
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows-2
MARVEL had a very solid numbers with both Thor and Captain America making the list of Winners this summer. No surprise, I know. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows-part 2- made the list of course being probably the best film released this summer. No surprises again, Right!! Well here's a surprise. Rise of the Planet of The Apes came out to be the sleeper hit this summer earning close to 256 million worldwide and still going. Most fans couldn't stand the idea of a prequel but as we've all learned ROTPOTA was very entertaining, and most are looking forward to a sequel.
THE LOSERS
Cowboy's and Aliens
Conan The Barbarian
Green Lantern
Cowboy's and Aliens- Many thought this would be the sleeper hit of the summer however, it turns out that James bond and Indiana Jones just couldn't cut the mustard. I was actually looking forward to something new and fresh out of this duo with Favreau directing yet it still left many feeling like we've seen it all before. Conan The Barbarian- This surprised me that with a more Cimmerian looking Conan most folks still can't seem to get old Arny out of there heads.
Green Lantern-Yes friends we all knew it was coming. Green lantern had problems from the beginning. With many believing Ryan Reynolds shouldn't have been cast to seeing the whole plot in the first trailer almost a year before it's release. Green Lantern proved that not all CBM's can just be slapped together with a pretty boy face and make tons of money.
Well folks there you have it. Now I'm sure many of you have noticed no mention of X-Men First Class or Transformers Dark of The Moon. This surprised me as well since both movies did quite well you would expect them to be on the winners list.
