Legendary Comics & Frank Miller Team Up For Holy Terror Graphic Novel

Legendary Comics certainly knows how to make an entrance, teaming up with writer/artist Frank Miller (whose numerous credits include The Dark Knight Rises, 300 and Sin City) for his original graphic novel, Holy Terror, described as a "dark, uncompromising superhero tale for the modern era."

In HOLY TERROR, join The Fixer, a brand new, hard-edged hero as he battles terror. The graphic novel is a no-holds-barred action thriller told in Miller’s trademark high-contrast, black-and-white visual style, which seizes the political zeitgeist by the throat and doesn’t let go until the last page.

“It has been my extreme pleasure and honor to have worked so closely with Frank for over 20 years now,” says Legendary Comics editor Bob Schreck. “Holy Terror finds Frank at the top of his game. A fast paced, biting commentary on our uncertain and volatile times, told with some of the most gut-wrenching, iconic images he's ever produced.”

HOLY TERROR is a 120 page hardcover graphic novel with spot-color interiors presented in a 10 x 13 landscape format. Distributed by Diamond Books, HOLY TERROR retails for $29.99 and will be in stores on September 14.

Adds Newsarama on the subject, "The project started life as Holy Terror, Batman!, first announced by Miller at WonderCon 2006 as Batman taking on Al Qaeda. In 2010, the Los Angeles Times reported that book would be leaving DC Comics, and renamed simply as Holy Terror starring a new protagonist, The Fixer."

I hate how the media tends 2 portray Muslims all as terrorists, DC took a more mature and right approach by portraying a Muslim superhero and in turn Muslims in a more normal good light

Al-Qaedah is just a group extremists who are destroying the true meaning of Islam and in turn creating paranoia and prejudice, guys like Miller will probably just give a very biased approach 2 this and only further feed this kind of fearful crap

I cant quite remember, all I know is that there was a French member of Batman Inc that made some skinheads mighty pissed, but my point isn't there should be more Muslim superheroes, just why are all of them are portrayed as bad guys

@ revolveR

The exact definition means 'Submission to God in peace'

oh yeah i remember that one. i was thinking about another character.

its the media making out that all Muslims are terrorist. remember this is the same media making out that all black people are criminals. their main mission in life is to scare ignorant people.

all the muslims people i know are cool. its amazing the media never say Christian terrorist and their are alot of them also.

I dont want 2 turn this into a big debate, but u seem 2 b gunning 4 that, end of the day Islam has always acted on the basis if attacked strike back in defense, the Muhammad (pbuh) military expeditions are about cleansing paganism, if u knew about the times back then u'd know it was rife with human sacrifices, infanticide n general hedonism

If stupid individuals who distort the message terrorise people under the pretence of belief in Islam then it doesn't mean that evry single Muslim should b presented as a bad guy

@ Sup3r

but...this comic isn't about Muslims in general, its about Al Qaeda. Sure, not all Muslims are terrorists, but ALL of Al Qaeda are. since he's fighting them over there, i'm sure there will innocent muslim people. I doubt very seriously The Fixer will go over there and the entire country is portrayed as gun toting maniacs.

At no point does anything in this article say he's going to fight all Muslims because they're terrorists. its Al Qaeda, not Muslims that he's fighting.

@ sup3r that's a hypocritical message.

'Submission to God in peace'....... "unless......."

so basically, what that says to me without saying it is, that god is a liar. if god is infallible, how could that be?

i believe there is an architect in all of this, i just refuse to believe that he/she/it chooses men, to right its wrongs. these beliefs, rules, actions, are the work of man.

that's why I'm of the opinion that organized religion is a tool of repression created by men. and it's slowed us down as a species. it might have had a function once, but it no longer does.

@ jazzman

Ur spot on correct

@ CorndogBurglar

If thats the case fair enough, Il keep an open mind to it, but more often than not the view is ridiculously one sided

@ revolveR

In regards to the 'hypocritical message,' Islam states submission to God in Peace, because the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) never forcibly converted anyone to Islam, in fact he was against it, he offered people the chance to convert, if they didn't want to they were free to live their lives more or less as before, but they had obey the new laws (Islamic laws if they lived in an Islamic country) and their rights were slightly restricted

If anyone forcibly converts someone to Islam, etc, then that goes against the whole belief system of Islam as that doesn't follow the teaching of God or Muhammad (pbuh)

As for your personal belief in this matter, you have urs, I have mine, ur entitled towards ur opinion I have no opposition towards it, my original point is that I'd like to see a less biased one sided view of Muslims in media, with writers like Frank Millar they more often than not tend to just exploit the typical view and showcase it as something to classify the entire group with

Way to go, revolveR. Religion is obsolete, period. You might as well worship Superman. I love it when people whine about how peaceful the Muslim religion is, when "honor killings" are widely accepted (and even happen in the U.S.), and people take to the streets and murder their fellow citizens when someone draws a cartoon of their "god," or their "god" is insulted in any way. You don't see christians pulling that crap. You just see them bilking idiots for millions and raping altar boys...
Retardo

Honour killings aren't part of Islam, that's actually a cultural thing that admittedly started off in many Middle Eastern countries and is unfortunately misinterpreted as part of Islam
As I said 2 revolveR, Im not here to oppose any anti-religious opinions or anything but at least get ur facts right

SUP3R, keep playing interference, but the "Islam means peace" cover's blown, and Miller's book will do its part in getting pop culture off its ass and on a war footing.

I dont see any broblem with kicking some terrorist's ass in a comic book. Captain America is going to be killin some Nazi/ Hydra scumbag's on july 22 so SUP3R dont take it personal. We all know tere were good Germans that did'nt beleive in Hitler but had no choice. I love the word's "NOT FORCIBLY" and "THERE RIGHT'S WERE SLIGHTLY RESTRICTED" those are word's that lead nowhere but to slavery or death in the end. Im sure in the book there not killing muslam's, but taking out the terrorist's.

I do sort of wonder if Frank Miller's not gone insane... after reading All-Star Batman and Robin I kind of wonder if he's lost it =P

Also, I think there's a good story to be had in this setting, but it requires a delicate balance so as not to come of as an attack on Islam etc. Unfortunately if there's one word not in Frank Miller's dictionary, it's subtlety :P In fact about the only words in his dictionary are 'violence' and 'whores'.

As far as the muslim thing goes? I have no respect for it. I think I would be more inclined to listen to the wisdom of someone who worshipped a tree as a God because it bore fruit for his survival and he was somewhat thankful than someone who thought there was wisdom in thinking that 72 virgins are waiting for him for irradicating everyone who doesn't think like he does.......and on top of this, kills because a guy prays to a tree. Just why would it matter in the first place unless you have a survival of the fittest sttitude.

@itbegins2005- Yes. Frank Miller used to produce decent comic artwork until he started writing (I believe one of the DC holiday specials from the 1970s is a decent example). Then his artistic work gradually flushed down a toilet. Later, writing quality as well.
