2012 Summer Movie Guide
Costumed characters once again will dominate the silver screen starting May 4th with the release of Marvel's highly anticipated Avengers. Not to be out done of course Warner Brothers will be releasing the follow up to 2008's The Dark Knight, on July 20 with the 3rd and final installment of Christopher Nolan's Batman's franchise the Dark Knight Rises. Of course these are but a couple of the highlights of the slew of movies coming this summer. The following is seventeen movies I have circled to see this summer.
May 4 - The Avengers - This movie has been eagerly anticipated ever since the final scene of Iron Man in 2008. It is one of the most ambitious projects in movie history tying in so many characters and stars from other huge films in their own right. Early reviews and projections look like this one has hit the mark. Avengers Assemble!
May 18 - Battleship - A science fiction adventure with Liam Nielsen based on the Hasbro board game. What? Doesn't seem like it makes any sense but early trailers for the movie have it on my want to see list.
May 25 - Men In Black 3 - Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones return for the 3rd installment of the fun Men In Black movies. Fun for all ages!
June 1 - Snow White and the Huntsman - Since sitting in on the Comic Con panel last year in San Diego this movie has been on my list. The star studded cast of Charlize Theron, Chris Hemsworth, and Kristen Stewart should make this movie a big draw. Be warned though kiddies, this isn't Disney's Snow White.
June 8 - Prometheus - A chilling Aliens movie. Yeah it's scary. I'm there.
June 8 - Madagascar 3 - This movie is referred to as a kid's movie, but quite frankly I have found all these movies hilarious. Cute and cuddly boys!
June 15 - Jack and The Giant Killer - Another retelling of a classic Fairy Tale, in this case Jack and the Beanstalk. This one is staring Ewan McGregor and maybe a sleeper surprise of the summer.
June 22 - Brave - This is the new Pixar film of the summer and is the story of little girl fighting for her place in man's world. Not as excited as I have been for other Pixar films but this will be a good movie to take the kiddies to.
June 22 - Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter - Honest Abe was one of our best presidents, just so happens he has some surprising skills hunting Vampires as well. Based on the very good book by Seth Grahame-Smith.
June 29 - G.I. Joe: Retaliation - (Since this article was written it actually has been pushed back to a 2013 release date)
In a sequel to the 2009 movie, Bruce Willis, and Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson join Channing Tatum fighting Cobra as America's super elite fighting force. I found the first one entertaining and am hoping this one delivers a not to serious action adventure.
July 3 - The Amazing Spider-Man - When Sony announced they were rebooting the Spider-Man franchise fans of the the Sam Raimi directed movies all said collectively, WHAT? WHY? Those two simply questions still have yet to be answered. Hopefully the new Peter Parker, Andrew Garfield, will swing into theaters with a hit but we shall see.
July 20 - The Dark Knight Rises - This is the 3rd and final installment in Christopher Nolan's Batman movies. Christian Bale once again is the Caped Crusader this time taking on an all new villain in Bane. Even if this movie doesn't achieve the same level of success as the Dark Knight, it should be a good finale to the series.
July 27 - Here Comes the Boom - Kevin James makes me laugh, this movie has him fighting as a mixed martial arts fighter trying to save his schools music program.
July 27 - Neighborhood Watch - This movie is starring Ben Stiller, Vince Vaughn and Jonah Hill. The release date was pushed back to July due to the Travon Martin case in Florida. Don't confuse real life with a movie as this one should be funny.
August 3 - Bourne Legacy - A continuation of the three part series that starred Matt Damon. This is an interesting try to have a fresh take on the story here bringing in Jeremy Rainer as another agent in the same system Damon's character was, if done correctly could lead to another trilogy.
August 3- Total Recall - As funny as this will sound this was my favorite Arnold Schwarzenegger movie not in the Terminator series. I was ecstatic to see this movie remade.
August 10 - The Campaign (Previous working title was Southern Rivals) - The last of the movies on the list is a new Will Ferrell movie co-starring Zach Galifianakis. Its the story of two North Carolina politicians vying for a presidential bid. A little humor to end the summer is always fun.
