Earlier this week, Universal Pictures shared the first official look at Christopher Nolan's next directorial venture, Oppenheimer, which will star Cillian Murphy as J. Robert Oppenheimer, the scientist behind the Manhattan Project and the invention of the atomic bomb.
Along with the photo comes confirmation that principal photography has commenced on the $100 million historical thriller. The production is expected to shoot across the country, with stops in New Mexico, California, and New Jersey.
In addition to Murphy, the all-star cast features 2x BAFTA Film Award-nominee Emily Blunt as Katherine "Kitty" Oppenheimer, Academy Award-winner Matt Damon as Leslie Groves, 2x Academy Award-nominee Robert Downey Jr. as Lewis Strauss, Academy Award-nominee Florence Pugh as Jean Tatlock, Academy Award-winner Rami Malek, Benny Safdie as Edward Teller, Josh Hartnett as Ernest Lawrence, Dane DeHaan, Jack Quaid, Matthew Modine, Dylan Arnold as Frank Oppenheimer, Olli Haaskivi, Alden Ehrenreich, David Krumholtz, Michael Angarano as Robert Serber, and 8x Academy Award-nominee Kenneth Branagh.
Oppenheimer is currently scheduled to open exclusively in theaters on July 21, 2023.
