Rotten Tomatoes Bashes ComicBookMovie.com

Rotten Tomatoes Bashes ComicBookMovie.com

That's right, Rotten Tomatoes references CBM, but in a bad way.

While surfing through my normal sites on Friday night, I came across RottenTomatoes.com's "Weekly Ketchup" article. I read it each week. I noticed that Rotten Tomatoes bashed ComicBookMovie.com.

"...but today, there are dozens, and they're all scrapping for their piece of buzz that will drive traffic to their URL," writes Rotten referring to other sites online including CBM.

Really?!

I may be new to the fansite side of things here at CBM, but I work for the sports site BleacherReport.com. I run two of my own sites/blogs, too, and that is the goal of EVERY site online--to attract readers and online traffic.

This is how sites make their money.

The more traffic and readers, the higher a site can charge for advertising to make more money.

"What is most likely happening here is that ComicBookMovie.com does indeed have some sort of inside source, although whether that source is reliable or not might be questionable," writes Rotten.

Of course there are several CBM writers that have their sources because some of us (not me to clarify) have those connections withing the film industry while some of us do not.

But saying "whether that source is reliable or not..." is another way of calling out CBM's credibility.

As a paid and credentialed sports writer, I know for a fact that writer's have a thing called credibility.

Some of us have more than others, but those who are really pursuing any career in journalism knows that your credibility is the one thing that you do not mess with because once a writer loses their credibility, then that is one of the hardest things to recover if it can be recovered at all.

In closing, I have to add that CBM made the No. 1 "Rotten Idea of the Week" spot and those are fighting words especially since many of us here that have fansites are quite possibly trying to branch out our talents to others to either get a career in writing or to just vent our personal opinions.

Sadly I have to say that Rotten should have given itself the No. 1 ranking as the "Rotten Idea of the Week" to call out CBM like that.

This may sound like a rant. It really is, when a site calls out another that I enjoy as much as CBM, I feel compelled to speak my mind.

dude, totally agree with what you're saying. it IS the point of each and every site to up their traffic by posting the latest and greatest scoops.
the problem is that each and every time the scoop is not going to be reliable EVERY time.
RottenTomatoes might as well be calling the entirety of the Information Superhighway (the Internet for the uninitiatied). CBM's scoops have imo a 70% reliability rate. that is a lot higher than most other user oriented sites like IMDB and Wikipedia.
where RT gets it in their heads to bash CBM is beyond me. but what do i know? oh yeah! that's right. i'm a certified user and deliver my own scoops every now and then.
that's another thing! CBM is not only a news site. there is also a Fan Fic section which is where i donate the majority of my writing skills. i've never been an avid supporter of RT, but i have been an occassional pedestrian on their site. i have not seen the type of accessibility there than i have here on CBM (not like i really tried though!)
informative rant btw!

Hold the phone! What they are saying is they don't like competition because they are scooped sometimes. Since its origin is similar to this site, anything likewise is probably distressing. Don't forget, when all this started, comic book movies without Tim Burton were Corman's Fantastic 4, Dolph Lundgren as the Punisher, and Swamp/Man-Thing on TV. Look, every site has its weakness, but the site has proven itself. When another site rips on it--its due to fear of competition and lack of news.

I am not a fan of Rotten Tomatoes, but if my memory serves me correct Pietro not only got exclusive GL stuff, but he got an EXCLUSIVE with Lady Sif, and they didnt, are they drinking the Hatorade or something? There is a lot more info on this site than other movie sites anyways.

It's amazing how we as people shout "Give us free speech."
Yet we often look to our left or right and say to our neighbor "You can't say that!"

@Airbeyonder- Brilliantly put my friend.

It'd be rendundant to say that every scoop is not going to prove to be spot on. For the writer/editor to write something like that also puts his/her credability on the line as well. Being that their site, if you really break it down, is quite similar to CBM.com, they should know that everything won't be the way you want it.

hmm..i would say what RT has written is constructive criticism, not outright bashing...i love both of these sites...but maybe cbm could take a note from this & improve..again i am not saying cbm is trying to drag hits to their sites..many rumours have also come true..so if it is true this time,RT can be proved wrong but till then, lets scale down on the number of rumours..

From RT "What is most likely happening here is that ComicBookMovie.com does indeed have some sort of inside source, although whether that source is reliable or not might be questionable. Within the studio system, there is often talk about dream casting, and an individual employee might know what names are being thrown around, but that doesn't always translate into actual signed contracts and the actor eventually starring in the movie"

On a slightly brighter note, those @$$holes have just given this website more publicity, meaning that people (how many I can't guess) will come to see this site and make up THEIR OWN MINDS. 'Bad publicity is still publicity.' ANYONE IN JOURNALISM KNOWS THIS! By mentioning you at all, they shot themselves in the foot.

Seems to be a common theme anymore, comment about something when it doesn't represent the whole. The writers on this site post rumors and facts and most often than not say in the beginning or end how credible they think it is. Heck, some of the titles even state RUMOR. That's what makes some discussions on this site fun, is the speculation of what's been said. I think they have pen envy.

The problem is, there are a few trolls who are posting "Exclusives" that are obviously fake but other sites are spotting them before any of us have a chance to delete them! Of course, it doesnt help when all those Fox rumours were posted one after the other (as I'm sure to many people/sites it's pretty hard to believe Fox would allow casting information about EVERY main character and a director to be that easily leaked) and then a day later MTV debunks one of them. Regardless, they still have no right to attack CBM in this way!

That YouTube video might just be the single most pathetic thing I've ever seen. :D Having watched a few of your other videos as well, I'm guessing you suffer from some serious issues...paranoia for example. The fact you need to keep justifying your "5 years" of experience and abuse both the site's owner and users when they dont listen to you just makes it all the more obvious how full of BS you are when you have these little tantrums.

RT wouldn'nt say shit unless CBM was taking some of it's traffic and hits. Don't like what we do? Don't come here. But then u shouldn't be able to cite CBM when DCMF@ posts something before you. But I don't think what they said was that bad- in print it looks bad but I bet if u heard the person say it it probably wasn't mean spirited. it's actually true. the validity of every post should be questioned, but even if the author doesn't question it directly in his article then there is that disclaimer at the bottom. so what are they really trying to say that people don't already know? This site is for rumors, fan speculation, and fan discussion with a dedicated few who have access to certain things first, anyone who thinks more than that needs to check themselves. The very format of this fansite is what makes it different, it's by the fans, for the fans. Gtfo if u no likey

you have to admit though that 90% of the things posted on here are complete bullshit, that's badly written by someone who didn't use speel chevk. but the other 10% make this site totally worth it and that 90% more often that not generate great conversation! i can't count how many times i've read the headline of the article and groaned only to go on the comments section and get some good debate goin'. thats what i use this site for, it's for fans connecting with other fans over movies.

RT is totally different and again, would say anything unless they were seeing CBM affect them in some way. and im sure other sites were saying the same thing about them when they started out - where's that pirannah 3D producer? can we get him to write us a letter?

Honestly I go there from time to time but bashing us like that is like punching someone in the back of the head. Bunch of condescending douches.

They just don't understand the site because only nerds can truly appreciate the setup. We obsess over our favorite comics being adapted, and therefor love to read every rumor and speak our minds about them. Nobody believes every word on here like a legitimate news site; we question the information and debate it.

Some scoops are from inside sources, some are from other sites, and some are merely rumors. But the writer of the article always gives credit where credit is due, and the reader almost always knows where the source came from. But it doesn't matter if the information is legit or not, what's important is that we all get a chance to be journalists, commentators, and skeptics.

This isn't a news website, it's a community of like-minded people sharing their thoughts with one another. We argue, we bond, we verbally destroy trolls, and most of all, we share our mutual appreciation for comic books and CBMs.

I think Rotten Tomatoes may be a little jealous because their users aren't as adamant as we are. Excelsior, motherf**kers!! :)

rotten tomatoes is the more respected and well knowned site than cbm. i mean when u watch tv, if they talk about the internet its always rotten tomatoes and you never hear about cbm. and alot of stories on cbm is crap and made up or just false. but i do like cbm better and never go to rotten tomatoes.

im not bashing cbm because i like this site and check it everyday. but this site does report too many rumors, instead of waiting for more credited news. maybe this site should wait longer to post news instead of posting rumors. but than again less than half of the news is dead on and thats y i like this site.

OK, look. I don't care what Rotten Tomatoes says about CBM---it doesn't matter. But, to quote you, Danielwolf, you say "As a paid and credentialed sports writer, I know for a fact that writer's (sic) have a thing called credibility." You can't have credibility when you don't know the difference between the possessive and the plural---writer's vs writers. Not knowing something so basic to English grammar calls into question everything you just said. I know that the internet has no standards to speak of, but when you make such a glaring error, it seems impossible that someone pays you to write---or is that pay's you to write?

I don't believe the article bashes CBM to badly. It just calls into account how this site circulates around rumors--which as noted by those above, adds to the charm of this website. I think the article is being taken out of context: for maybe the first portion of the paragraph, CBM's credibility is called uncertain, which is fine because its true sometimes. But the latter half of the paragraph focuses on the FF4 reboot and why its not currently plausible. I wouldn't say 3 sentences referencing CBM to be a bad thing. Besides, any publicity for this site is good publicity.

Well, while it was a low blow, there are a shocking number of totally unfounded rumors, as well as a lot of knee-jerk editorials. The constant use of half naked shots from Playboy whenever a certain actress is being discussed is also annoying.

That said, who cares what other sites think?

@iconstatic- I hear what you're saying and agree with you on most points, but at the end of the day it's all just entertainment.

@spiderman2029- Look man, I admit I think some of the policies around here can be pretty bs sometimes. But, carrying on like this isn't accomplishing anything. You don't like the rules, then get out of the CBM sandbox and play in your own. By the way, did you really spend that time bashing the site and it's owner, and then promote your own stuff in the forum? That's hilarious. Please tell me you work for Rotten Tomatoes.
