THE DARK KNIGHT RISES Actress Anne Hathaway In Negotiations To Star In Sony's Live-Action BARBIE Movie

Amy Schumer was forced to drop out of Sony Pictures' Barbie flick due to a scheduling conflict, but the studio is reportedly in talks with Anne Hathaway (Colossal, TDKR, Interstellar) to come on board as a contemporary incarnation of the iconic blonde-haired doll.

According to The Tracking Board, Alethea Jones (Fun Mom Dinner) is the current frontrunner to helm the picture.

Though things may have changed when Schumer departed the movie, Sony originally envisioned the adaptation as "an imaginative family comedy", using the likes of Splash, Big, and Enchanted as templates.

The Barbie movie will be produced by Walter F. Parkes, Laurie MacDonald, and Amy Pascal, and is set for a June 29, 2018 release.

Amy Schumer in a Barbie movie would've been awful... but then again, so would a live action Barbie movie

@stephhurry - I don't like Amy Schumer at all. Mostly because she's annoying and steals jokes. I'm glad she's being recast.

Amy Schumer as Barbie was sort of an ironic statement...

Not sure what the hell this would be.

@DavidGray - An actual freaking Barbie movie with class. I f&cking hated the Amy Schumer casting. I'm a HUGE Barbie fan and that was THE worst casting news I've ever had to deal with.

@ALostCause - same. I was forced to watch it as a kid. Went to the movies with school friends and all the girls voted on PD.

Have had a crush on Hathaway ever since.
