Lionsgate has sent out a press release announcing that the final instalment in their Hunger Games series, Mockingjay - Part 2, will be upgraded to IMAX 3D upon its release towards the end of November. There's quotes from director Francis Lawrence, IMAX Senior Executive Vice President Greg Foster, and also our first full synopsis for the film; giving us an idea of what Katniss and her rebel pals will be facing this time around. Speaking of Miss Everdeen, Jennifer Lawrence recently posed for Vanity Fair and we also have a new pic from the shoot below. The actress was photographed naked, with a very lucky snake draped across her back in homage to the 1981 Richard Avedon Vogue portrait of Nastassja Kinski.

“THE HUNGER GAMES: MOCKINGJAY – PART 2” SOARS INTO IMAX® 3D THEATERS STARTING NOVEMBER 20

SANTA MONICA, Calif., February 6, 2015 – IMAX Corporation (NYSE: IMAX) and Lionsgate (NYSE: LGF), a premier next generation global content leader, today announced that The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2, the next installment of the global blockbuster Hunger Games franchise, will be digitally re-mastered into the immersive IMAX® format and released in IMAX® 3D theaters domestically for the film’s November 20th rollout.

“I’m thrilled Mockingjay – Part 2 will be in IMAX theaters,” said director Francis Lawrence. “Fans will now have the chance to see the film in any format they want, which is exciting; we recently saw the 3-D version of Mockingjay – Part 1 before its release in China, and the new level of immersion was really fantastic.” “It’s exciting to be back in The Hunger Games world and once again team up with our partners at Lionsgate, director Francis Lawrence and producers Nina Jacobson and Jon Kilik on what we believe will be a thrilling, action-packed finale to this blockbuster franchise,” said Greg Foster, Senior Executive Vice President, IMAX Corp. and CEO of IMAX Entertainment. “The fan enthusiasm and cultural impact that this series has generated has been truly remarkable and we are thrilled to offer audiences the opportunity to experience the last chapter in IMAX 3D.”

The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2 now brings the franchise to its powerful fourth chapter in which Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence) now fully realizes the stakes are no longer just for survival -- they are for the future. With the nation of Panem in a full scale war, Katniss confronts President Snow (Donald Sutherland) in the final showdown. Teamed with a group of her closest friends – including Gale (Liam Hemsworth), Finnick (Sam Claflin), and Peeta (Josh Hutcherson) – Katniss goes off on a mission with the unit from District 13 as they risk their lives to stage an assassination attempt on President Snow who has become increasingly obsessed with destroying her. The mortal traps, enemies, and moral choices that await Katniss will challenge her more than any arena she faced in The Hunger Games.

And yet apparently Lionsgate doesn't want this to be the last Hunger Games-related movie. Because of course they don't.

I don't care what Shailene Woodley used to say about you in her tear soaked pillow. You're okay in my book Ror.

Well it looks like this franchise isnt going anywhere anytime soon

"Lionsgate CEO Jon Feltheimer told analysts this morning that he’s “actively looking at some development and thinking about prequel and sequel possibilities” for the Hunger Games franchise."

@TheTruthHurts How is Jurassic World a comic book movie? Or Star Wars? Or Star Trek? Or any other non-cbm that this site still covers?

I'm amazed this "issue" still gets brought up around here.

If they go forward with the continuation of the franchise then they have to make films based on the past games or past war. Such as Finnick's game, Johanna's game and most of all Haymitch's game. It will be great to see their games being brought up into the big screen. Also bring up the past war, The Dark Days when District 13 rebelled against The Capitol.

I'll never understand why some guys get turned off by some of these thick women like Lawrence (and even a little thicker than that) I love women in many different shapes and sizes. But the stuff I see people rave about here stays leaving me scratching my head. lol
