Alright Darna Fans in the USA !! The series begins on August 12, 2009 (Check your local listings)

Darna will air weeknights on GMA Pinoy TV. Each episode is approximately one half an hour long and will have two encore presentations each day. Meaning each episode will be aired at three different times per day. So for those of us who have unusual work schedules, we have two extra chances to watch an episode should we miss it the first time around. And on SATURDAYS, there will be a mini-marathon of all the episodes that aired during the week. (5 episodes)

Unlike the 2005 tv series that introduced mostly brand new villains and focused on her untold history from the Planet Marte, the new series will introduce her classic golden/ silver age villains in their 'Modern Age' versions: Valentina-The 'goddess of Serpents', Roma-The Half Human/half Demon, Babaeng Linta (The Leech Woman), Babaeng Tuod (A Monstrous Wood Elemental), Babaeng Lawin (The Hawk-Woman). The recently concluded Darna Press Launch introduced cast and their characters to fans excitement.

FYI: Darna is a Philippine Superhero created by the late Mars Ravelo("Philippine Stan Lee") in 1947 six years later after Wonder Woman was made by DC (1941).

Since 1951 numerous movies have been made for Darna. In 2005 GMA Network made a TV Series on this with an actress who is now a talent of their rival tv station. Now they made another Darna Series with a new cast and actress...

Darna in short have not made its name internationally yet...

There are some Mars Ravelo character who has a similar super powers with DC characters...I cant say its copycat because its a very old character...

"Darna is a fictional character and superheroine created by Filipino komiks (Philippine colloquial term for comics) legend Mars Ravelo. In her more popular incarnations, she is a warrior from outer space manifesting herself through a girl from Earth, named Narda.

Darna was originally known as Varga and first appeared in Bulaklak Magazine, Volume 4, #17, on July 23, 1947. Ravelo had differences with the editors of Bulaklak Magazine and Varga's name was changed to "Darna". The character was re-launched on May 13, 1950. Nestor Redondo drew the first Darna." -wikipedia

May I also add that among the main difference between Darna and Wonder Woman -- from the very start Darna can FLY! Wonder Woman on the other hand needed an invisible jet!

This is what we observed when Wonder Woman TV show hit the Philippines in the 70's.

Oh yeah Wonder Woman nowadays can fly-- nearly after 40 years when her character was updated during the Post-Crisis of the DC Universe during the 80's.

Speaking of invisible jet. Can anyone please upload a clip of Wonder Woman and her invisible jet? And please preferably live action version not the SuperFriends?
OK I admit. I had huge crush on Linda Carter way back then.

And finally, I still say that an updated Darna movie released internationally might be great.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I really don't get why people try to compare her and WW. Other then both being women, there nothing alike.
I read somewhere that in an interview Mars Ravelo did admit that Darna was inspired from Captain Marvel and Superman. That's why she could fly, and her alter ego is a young girl, and transforms into her superhero identity by calling her name-- after she swallows the mystical stone. He just made a female version as a tribute to his mother. Matriarchal side is strong in the Philippines-- note the two female Presidents.
As for Wonder Woman-- I guess he never heard of her.
