The X-Men find themselves trapped in the Negative Zone and with the remaining members of the Fantastic Four still reeling from their loss, they have no way home. But when King Blastaar finds out about his most unwelcome guests, only one man can save them and it’s none other than Steve Rogers himself!

“Escape From The Negative Zone will further define the Cyclops/Hope relationship that fans have been clamoring for as well as the relationship between the X-Men, Steve Rogers and the Avengers” explains Marvel Senior Editor, Nick Lowe. “Not to mention, this will be the first time that Steve Rogers and Hope meet, but certainly not the last! And for fans wondering what Namor is REALLY capable of, they’ll have their answer.”

Home to some of the most super-powered villains of the Marvel Universe, King Blastaar should be the least of the X-Men’s worries as their greatest threat is yet to come! Get started on all the action this March in Uncanny X-Men Annual #3!

Ok... when did Namor become a member of the X-men?
ThaMessenger07
ThaMessenger07 - 2/16/2011, 8:04 AM
Why does everyone look 14? Cyclops looks like Justin Bieber....

@ Oreos: Kinda so he can fly/steer. He runs, flies, and swims extremely fast too so it my have several purposes(much faster then what handbooks list him as). Plus the Atlanteans originally had fin like wings on there ankles. So Namor had feathered wings to further establish he is unique from both species that make is Hybrid anatomy.

Holy shit! That is the [frick]ing ugliest artwork work I've ever seen. Why do they all have fat faces? WTF? Where's Adi Granov when you need him?
MassExecutions
MassExecutions - 2/16/2011, 8:08 AM
@Oreos and ThaMessenger07 - Actually, I thought it was retconed so that Namor was a hybrid AND a mutant and the wings were a result of his x-gene. This also explains why he is not hanging out with the x-men.
ThaMessenger07
ThaMessenger07 - 2/16/2011, 8:12 AM
@ Mass: It wasn't really a Retcon, more like a confirmation. And the wings + massive strength/durability + adaptability + Speed + Aquatic Animal Mimicry= his Mutation.

@ MassExecution: Yeah but it wasn't like one Issue, it was in a few. And never was said that he no longer has the powers they were just kind of stupid like the Blow fish thing lol.

@ SuperArgo: He works well with strong Leaders. He also has fought and worked with them many times in the past because of his mutant gene. He just has problems with characters that are weak in personality or jokesters/tricksters.

Sounds like a great story, but what horrible artwork. Everyone looks like they're about 12! :P

@ JTheMostAwesome

Sometime around the Utopia/Exodus crossover I think. I can't remember what initiated it, but what made it official pretty much was when Magneto cut a deal with him behind Cyclop's back to get Namor to build a pillar under Utopia to keep it afloat that would simultaneously give Namor at rallying point for his kingdom. It's was pretty much a mutual business decision.

It doesn't make a lot of sense to have Namor with the X-Ment to me either..But it is interesting.. I've enjoyed seeing Cyclops trick him into helping them and making him think it was his idea.

I have a question for all Marvel fans out there.

If they did a "Namor the Submariner" movie and he was just like the 616 version, except the took away the wings and flight and instead gave him hydrokinesis like the Ultimate version, would you be upset?
MassExecutions
MassExecutions - 2/16/2011, 9:53 AM
@Coldblood6 - Whoa. Tough call. I don't I'd prefer it, but it wouldn't be a deal breaker. If I was scripting it, I would just make the wings some gift from the gods that he wears.
Spock
Spock - 2/16/2011, 9:56 AM
@ Coldblood he would be update the ability to fly, & painted wings on his shoes just the Cap helmet with Chris. Bad artwork!, but a can't draw just saying!
ThaMessenger07
ThaMessenger07 - 2/16/2011, 10:18 AM
@ Coldblood6: Honestly I would hate it. It reduces him to Aquaman except less known. The Atlanteans used to be designed with Wings like his except Scaly. He is a Mutant and a Hybrid and unlike the other atlanteans does not have Blue Skin. It distinguishes him and shows both the duality of his races and the uniqueness of his x-gene. I do feel they should include Hydrokinesis though.

This artwork is absolutely horrible! I hate that "faux-manga" style. Everyone looks like they're 12 years old, and every page is either a splash page or has only a small number of panels.

This is one of the things I really dislike about modern comics. How are you supposed to tell a really good story when there are so few panels to do it in? Every page is a splash page or a huge panel with two or three little panels stuck in there. It takes more panels than that to tell a story that has any depth or detail to it. Read older comics, and you'll only see a splash page at the front of the book, with any other splash pages (which were used very sparingly) used to show events that were just too large in scale to draw any other way (a huge battle scene, for example), or a huge event that was drawn that large to emphasize what was happening.

ThaMessenger07 - 2/16/2011, 10:27 AM
@ comicb00kguy: I agree 100% The classic comics like the late 70's early 80's Thor is a great reference to what you are talking about. Marvelous story telling and the splash pages were simply epic in proportion!

An interesting scope of answers so far.

Please lets get more people giving their opinion. I'm really interested.

I have to say I'm on the side of hydrokinesis. I think wings/fins on ankles would not sit well with the general audience and they would find it corny. I think that using hydrokinesis (his mutation) to mimic flight is the way to go but I understand it is a major change and would probably upset some fans.

I have to say I think Namor is a very interesting character, rich in history and personality, and a great movie can be based on him!
ThaMessenger07
ThaMessenger07 - 2/16/2011, 11:06 AM
@ Coldblood6: A liberty as such would make room for liberties and ruin Marvels first Hero. His strength would loose his status as a powerhouse and reduced to the standard Aquatic character, It will make him suffer from greater character comparison to Aquaman who was actually introduced after Namor. Once again if the Atlateans are drawn with Wing/Fins on there ankles it will just distinguish him further from the other blue skinned Atlanteans. Namor not flying is as much an issue as Spider-Man not swinging or Superman not flying. I would hate to see him walk a shore and jog around town causing mayhem instead of flying around as in the comics. They can change the Green Scaly Speedo if they would like too lol Maybe just a reference or as what he sleeps in.

@ELgUaSoN Hahahahahaha! The Hell is up with the art? I like the that anime style,Just not on the Xmen. Where are Cheung,Deodato or Coipel for something this big.

@Coldblood6 I would be mad as all hell! To call Namor or even refer to him as a Aquaman knockoff is crazy. Namor would beast like Auther king.
