So, I was just his with the sudden urge to give a shout out to some of my friends at "Venture Comics". Haven't heard of them? Well, here goes... Venture Comics is a company created and managed by two long-time comic fans (and all around good guys) George Anderson and Charles Winkle. Now, I've known these guys for a while, and they're always kicking around some great ideas--and it seems like one day, they just got fed up with sitting around and letting those ideas go to waste...so they started Venture Comics. As of now, they only have one title, and it's in the middle stages of production. This title, as you may have guessed by the name of the article, is "Johnny Superhero".
Johnny Superhero, or "John Carter Haynes" is, power-wise, like a dampened Superman (i.e. he has super strength, is hard to injure, and can fly, but bullets don't bounce harmlessly off of him...) however, this is his only real connection to the boyscout-ish Superman...as Johnny is a complete jerk, and a publicity hound. In the early and mid ninties, Johnny was a superstar...well, let's just say that the comic takes place in modern times, and to use a quote from the creaters themselves, "Johnny has went from being a 'George Clooney' to a 'Criss Angel'"
Johnny still does heroic deeds and defeats supervillains (mainly because it gets him press), but he has become so addicted to fame that one of his biggest arch-enemies is actually on his payroll, and is contractually obligated to do battle with Johnny in a public place every time Johnny seems to be having a slow week in the news.
All in all, "Johnny Superhero" is a superhero satire of fame and celebrity lifestyle...and from all I've seen, it's shaping up to be something wonderfull.
