Warner Bros. Needs A Drastic Overhaul Where DC Is Concerned

I can't for the life of me understand how or why the execs in charge at Warner Bros. are screwing up everything they get their hands on regarding DC. The fact that the only two successful characters that have translated to the silver screen have been Batman and Superman bothers me. In the grand scheme of things, they own the rights to 3 of the most well known superheroes globally. You don't even have to be a comic book fan or reader to know who Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman are. Everybody knows who they are and yet bringing these characters to life has proven to be very difficult for the studio. Why?

Could it be that the people in charge have no idea what they are doing? Or maybe they don't read comic books and haven't a clue what they are truly sitting on. Marvel has successfully launched project after project while DC projects are still in development or have seen disastrous results. Warner Bros. needs to hire people who understand the dynamics of the comic book genre, people who are willing to think and go outside of the box when it comes to execution. There is no legitimate reason why there hasn't been a Justice League movie yet, no reason why it's so difficult to bring Wonder Woman to the big or small screen. There are tons of examples of strong female lead characters being successful on TV and in the movies, Xena, Lara Croft, Resident Evil, Buffy, and Charlie's Angels to name a few.

It's not rocket science! It's just that it's becoming quite painful to see the DC legacy being ruined by a studio that is proving itself to be inept when it comes to comic book storytelling. The blueprints are there already, duh! The comic books and the Justice League cartoons are perfect examples of what to do. Is it just me?

They probably don't care. I mean the benefit marvel has is that they only focus on their comic book properties, because that's all they have. Warner Brothers is making money elsewhere. If I project like Wonder Woman or justice league is too challenging, why worry? They can just keep focusing on other properties. Yes they would probably make a lot of money making more mainstream superhero movies but their existence doesn't revolve around whether those movies ever get made.

Warner bros. is too focused on setting up franchises from their comic properties. If they put more attention into the individual films making sure they are actually good then the audiences will come and the franchises will rise along with it.

The best option would be a dedicated DC Studios that only handles the comic properties across film and animation maybe even the TV side. Keep it basically autonomous from Warner so they won't screw things up. Get Directors and writers who are passionate about these characters involved and let it go from there.

Then they should let go of the properties if they have no intention of doing right by them. This crap about it being so difficult to translate Wonder Woman to the screen is nonsense. They have seen success with Justice League and Justice League Unlimited, the scripts are right there!!! Now they are pinning all of their hopes and the future of the DC movie universe on the Superman movie. They are making movies and TV shows about characters that people don't even care about like Green Lantern and Green Arrow, not to mention the fact that they change everything so drastically from the comic books...maybe they should to go to Comic Con and do their hiring there.

MrMxyzptlk: That's exactly what I'm talking about. They were able to take those characters and create something good, why can't they do the same for more characters to build the universe? They are pulling the plug on Green Lantern for "another" Batman show. How many animated Batman shows do we need? They canceled Young Justice to replace it with another version of Teen Titans? They seem more in the mindset that comic book fans are kids, evident by the DC Shorts that the Cartoon Network airs between commercial breaks on DC Universe Saturdays.

The excuse WB can't make these DC movies because they are too busy with other movies and tv shows doesn't work because so do Sony and Fox and they still get spider-man and x-men movies out every few years. By the time 2015 comes we'll have had 5 spidey movies and 7 x-men movies.

SotoJuiceMan: That's a total load of crap. If the projects are handled correctly the audiences will show up at the box office. The Avengers is proof that a Justice League movie could have been done a long time ago. What sense does it make for the WB to own all of those properties have they have no plans of doing anything with them? I'm not saying that every project will yield success, but at least give it a try. The X-men movies, Spiderman, Iron Man, Batman, all proof that it can work, make tons of money and bring in new fans.

@sotojuiceman true they got all the DC heroes but they could of got at least a movie for Wonder Woman and/or the flash. You could say that they did with GL, but GL is Not as widely known as flash and Wonder Woman add to the fact the movie had an awful first trailer in front of Harry potter and it sucked.

@SotoJuiceMan - You're missing my whole point. I'm not saying that the whole studio should be devoted to bringing DC characters to life. I am simply stating where the DC properties are concerned they are dropping the ball. They have such a vice grip on the properties and they don't know what to do with them. Yeah, they trusted the fans with Green Lantern but they're the ones who hired the director with little to no experience, not the fans. All I'm saying is that they need to put together a team of people who are versed in matters regarding comic books and comic book characters. It's not as simple as saying "Get a bank. Ask for a loan of 200 million dollars."

Warner Bros. is more than capable of making good films. They have a proven track record of that but with regards to DC...not so much. They don't seem to have a problem with animation, apply the same tactics to live action. I am not hating on Warner Bros. But the way that the DC Universe is being handled is deplorable.
