Why do Marvel Fans Bully DC Fans In This Site?

It seems that Marvel fans in this site like to gang up on the few DC fans we have here whenever they speak up. But why?

Editorial Opinion

I think it's obvious that Marvel have been winning the CBM war against DC for years. But for some reason, Marvel fans seem to think it's necessary to rub it in the faces of the very few DC fans we have in this site. But why? Are they insecure?

Last week alone, there were at least 3 editorials about the same topic, Marvel being better than DC. Whenever a DC fan tried to defend DC, this so called CBMTrolls and every Marvel fan in this site attacked them. Most of them with incredibly immature comments and even name-calling. To make things worse, the editors in this site put those editorials in the front page, as if it were some kind of public execution. Not to mention Marvel fans here like to take their time to invade any article that has to do with DC and fill them with smug comments about how much greater Marvel is.

I think it's pretty obvious that this site has a huge bias towards Marvel. I remember these two articles about how Batman and Superman's villains were "pussies" got bumped to the front page. What if the editorials had been about how Spider-Man's villains are pussies? Or how Iron Man's villains are incredibly lame? Would they have received the same special treatment? I don't think so. But an editorial on how Nick Fury's villains are better than Batman's did get bumped to the front page.

It seems that everyone in this site enjoys ridiculing DC fans. But do some of these so-called "Marvellites" really have the right to do so? I'm sure most of them have never even touched a Marvel comic in their lives, let alone anything from DC. Most of them only know what they know from movies and Wikipedia. Does that give them the right to call themselves Marvel fanboys? Maybe that's why they're so desperate for more Marvel movies, because they want to learn more about the Marvel universe but are too lazy to pick up a Marvel comic or just don't know where to buy them or where to start reading?

I myself am a huge Marvel fan. I have hundreds of Marvel comics, ranging from single issues to TPBs. I even have the Marvel encyclopedia. But that doesn't stop me from enjoying DC comics as well. I think it's silly to limit yourself to just one company. You're denying yourself the opportunity to explore two incredibly unique and amazing universes. I think Marvel fans need to be more open minded and less douchey. We like to brag about all of Marvel's accomplishments. But let's remember that without DC, there would probably be no Marvel. Hell, without Superman The Movie, CBMs probably wouldn't be where they are right now.

Can't we all just get along? I think Cap would want us to get along.

Huh???

I think sticking to one universe is for idiots lol!

I'm neither a Marvel or a DC fan...

I'm a comic book fan, both have gold and both have sh1T!

And lets not forget great stuff from DARK HORSE, IMAGE, and many others!

By the way DC is ahead of Marvel in many things, Marvels not there yet lol.

@Gladiator: I know you are trying to help but " it's obvious that Marvel have been winning the CBM war against DC for years" isnt exactly true, this is the first time I've ever heard(read) that to be honest. And they are not exactly bullying. In my view they(Marvel fans) are like a little, cute cockerspaniel thats barking at the Newfoundland dog(DC); ever so strendous to get attention but the big(enormous) dog doesn't really care.

In the long run both sides has overplays their "fanism" and dogmas. It's a tradition, and it's become a role we have grown so fondly into. Its is probably too late to change that now, if not impossible in the long run.
As I see it I think its a good thing to have this rivalry. To let the conflict go on is only necessary, if not healthy and perhaps even meaningful to some lesser extent. Marvel fans are quick to say that "DC fans refuse to bow down to this character" or that "the avengers gonna kill DC entertaintment" or something like that, and when some DC fans actually comes with counter-arguments it pisses Marvel fans off, how? Of course DC fans come with the same just arguments in return. But I am pretty sure we can make the assumption its more the other way around since the polls reflect there's a far superior number of Marvel fans on this site than there is of DC, and I actually think its a good thing for this struggle.

Its good to have conflict, especially of this sort. It isn't really a competition anymore, its simply arguments against arguments which will make us aspire to higher levels of debate when we leave the circle-arguments.
We aspire to something more, even greater when we do hit a 'nerve'.
But honestly, what defines better? Is it the economics? The marketing? Just the contents of stories or is it the movies released? Or even the art? How about statistics? There is always an answer, even in this conflict. One of the two companies, who together share over 80% of the American comicbook market, must be better than the other.
In the end its not the question of "Why do Marvel Fans Bully DC Fans In This Site" as you article so poignant puts it, but its the question of "why shouldn't we have this conflict", this DC VS Marvel rivalry?

Anyway, cool article. And pretty decent message too I might add.

Beware My Power!

I don't hate dc at all , I just get so pissed off when every time I turn around and hear how Batman could beat the crap out of pretty much any marvel superhero you can name . Constantly hearing crap like that just makes me want to attack dc every chance I get . Yes I like marvel heroes more but I will be the first to admit when a second tier marvel character goes against a first tier dc that the winner should be the most powerful one . But when a first tier marvel goes against a first tier dc lets face it guys the dc guy isn't going to win every time . If the dc guys could just admit this I wouldn't feel so against dc , but that is just me .

i love comics. i love movies. therefore i love comicbook movies. and i will admit that i am more of a Marvel guy than DC. that's mainly because i grew up with more Marvel exposure than DC.
but what i have noticed is a lack of movement from the DC camp with their characters.
DC has the deal of a lifetime what with WB owning all their characters. and the only movies that they can apparently make are Batman, Superman, or an obscure military covert ops team that is released along with The A-Team and The Expendables within four months of each one.

and yes Marvel has prostituted their own characters over the past twelve years. at first, it was to get their company out of bankruptcy. and then the studios realized that money and quality seldom go hand in hand. which is why Fox is still making sub par X-films and Sony is giving Spidey the now cliche option: reboot.

both have issues that irk their fanbase. and i cannot pick a side when there are so many incredible characters with both companies.

I think it's cause Marvel, please dont use this against me its just MY opinion, is ahead of DC in terms of film. DC has a rich library of characters and storys but they fail by only using two characters Batman and Superman. DC has now only broken that with the release of GL. There afraid to take a chance with a lesser known character. Marvel has already established many of their characters and they are now establishing their own Film universe.

Both DC and Marvel are great comic publishers with a great and diverse library. Its just that DC is a little slow on their part and fail by not introducing more characters than their precious Batman and Superman.

Cowboys and Aliens is a CBM based off the comic of the same name.
and Sherlock Holmes has been around for so long that comics have included him. League of Extraordinary Gentlemen had James Moriarty and even referenced Sherlock Holmes in the comics.
he has had hs own share of comic glory, its just not as showcased as say Spider-man.

marvel is not better. they are both great companies that have offered much. dc actually created superheroes with superman and marvel humanized them and made them interesting with stan lee. i am more of a marvel guy but i love both companies. it is utterly stupid and childish arguing who is better. none is better than the other.

The main articles where Marvel fans on CBM tend to give DC fans a hard time is mainly from the "Battle Polls" and "Movie comparisons". Alot of DC fans tend to think that their characters are invincible, and because DC created the superhero mainstream genre that they're better....some are just playing around, and some are serious about it. and i think Marvel fans tend to get annoyed by it.

But i think that the some of the remarks that people make on others on this site tend to be harsh. If your calling the comic character a name, thats passable, but not the fellow fans on here.

Both groups of fanboys hate on the others stuff. I wouldn't say either is bullying. I think a lot of people here have skewed points of view and won't acknowledge the strengths of the company that opposes their own.

I wanna make a few points here...

1.) It's a two way street. This board has more Marvelites that are commenting and as a result of this, their opinion is heard more. But believe me, when DC fans get the chance to strike, they strike hard. Recall that when news came out about Marvel's "Fear Itself", DC fans started staking claims about what a rip-off Marvel was.

Before I found ComicBookMovie, I was scavenging on IMDb and SuperHeroHype. IMDb had DC fans who trolled the Thor and Captain America boards, while SuperHeroHype had DC fans who got defensive even when Marvel was completely irrelevant to the discussion. On both sites, Marvel fans were like the tree-hugging pacifists. Like I said, It's a two-way street.

2.) Most Marvel fanboys are not "bullying" or "immature". (with the exception of one or two on this site whom I will not address by name.) Most Marvel fans are simply stating their opinion on certain subjects and doing so in a sincere, non-aggressive manner.

3.) It's called competition, and it's what has made the US economy one of the strongest in the world. The rivalry that exists between the fans is what causes the two companies to create bigger and better films. I guarantee you that if Marvel wasn't releasing all these films for lesser known characters, then DC wouldn't be filming Green Lantern or making plans for Flash.

@gladiator-first off i wanna say that yes i am a die-hard Marvel fan, but i am also a dc fan i grew up watching Batman: The Animated Series, hell i even had the toys and dressed as the character for Halloween when i was a kid. i don't dislike or hate DC, im just more of a marvel fan bc i relate better to the characters. what pissed people off about your editorial was the fact that you pushed all Marvel movies into one and blamed it all on marvel studios, and frankly that pissed almost everyone off. i have read marvel and dc comics infact Long Halloween is one of my favorites. please stop crying about it..dam half the people don't mean what they say

@ar8898- you sat there and got dirty just like the rest of us so i don't why you acting so high and mighty, you hypocritical s.o.b.

its true marvel at the current point and time are more sucsessfull then dc, being that dc in the past 20 years as only done movies on 4 characters most of witch sucked such as batman forever, batman and robin, superman returns, and catwoman. currently the only thing dc has to hold there name to is Batman Begins, The Dark Knight, and possibly Green Lantern. i say if your a real fan you have to like both DC and Marvel, and maybe if your into what they offer IMAGE, BOOM, Dark horse, and Manga(im not a fan of the other). so sack up be a man and move on "comics? theres no crying in comics!

and nor am i now, nor did i ever say that marvel was producing only golden films, but gladiator you cant sit there and say that movies like daredevil, ff, sm3, x3, and others were entirely marvels fault because the movie rights were and still arent under marvels control...am i gonna see the new x-men film..hell no because fox has the rights and i dam well know its gonna suck bc there only doing it to keep the movie rights. Spider-Man as you can tell is my favorite character of all time but am i gonna see the new reboot? fuuck no i aint bc again sony is only doing it to milk the cash cow that spider-man as become for them with the sucsess of Raimis first 2 sm films, and so on and so on, but ask me if im gonna go see Green Lantern? you bet your ass im gonna see it because DC seems to finally have there head on straight(but i will admit the GL costumes looks really bad) so there see it aint all bad now please take the razor blade from your wrist and put it away for another day...thank you

@Gladiator Maybe if you didn't write incendiary editorials such as "Is marvel killing the comic book movie industry" you wouldn't find yourself the target of a massive backlash from Marvel fans. Also, maybe if you did a little research and had your facts together before you pressed "submit" people might treat your editorials with a little more respect. I am a fan of both Marvel and DC, but nothing gives me more pleasure then taking to task some ignorant a-hole who just wants to start something by writing DC>Marvel or vice versa. Your article was clearly biased and one sided. You made statements that were false in an attempt to detract from Marvel Movies, and by association Marvel fans, but then you whine about Marvel fans picking on DC fans? I'm sorry, I find that quite irresponsible by someone claiming to be nuetral and crying "why can't we get along". People like yourself are in fact the ones that perpetuate this Marvel/DC rivalry. The shame is that more often than not instigators such as yourself are the first ones to cry "foul" when they get their asses handed to them. Stand behind your statements or keep your mouth shut.

Bottom line is, everyone has the right to like what they like. If you want to attack somebody's personal preferences then you better be armed with some facts, not opinions. What's the cliche? Hell I like just about all comic companies like DARK HORSE, IMAGE, TOP COW etc. I will never get caught up in the never ending MARVEL vs DC debate the only thing that I will be critical of WB/DC is that they rarely take risks unlike MARVEL but hopefully that changes after GREEN LANTERN hits.

i'm a marvel fan have been since 1986 & have thousands of comic books & i only read two dc comics at the moment green lantern & the flash also when dc do an epic event like final crisis, blackest night or 52.

so i have less intrest in dc movies as i do in dc comics, the thing i do hate is how "dc fans shout off there mouths about how great the dark knight is all the time or dc characters doesn't need a shared movie universe its bullshit if dc was doing what marvel was doing with the avengers dc fans would love it.

you will always have rivalries in all different walks of life & some that like to stir it up.
