Writers Give MICRONAUTS Update: "It Departs From The Comic Wildly"

Never something we like hearing here on CBM! Zombieland duo Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick have given us an update on yet another comic book screenplay they've been working on: the long in development at J.J. Abrams' Bad Robot production company, Micronauts. Read on for details..

Last we heard, Micronauts was set to head into production at Paramount with J.J. Abrams himself on board to direct, but that was a couple of years ago and there's been no word since. Now while speaking to Movies.com, Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick (yes we are getting a lot of updates from these lads lately!) give an update on the progress of the adaptation, and reveal a little of what we can expect from their screenplay. “We've written a couple of drafts of Micronauts and it's in the Paramount system now,” Wernick said. “We developed it with Bad Robot, and it's probably not what you might imagine a Micronauts movie to be.” The Micronauts were a series of action figures, vehicles, and playsets that were originally imported to the U.S. from Japan in 1974, inspiring a pretty damn good Marvel Comics series. But according to Reese, fans of that comic might be in for a disappointment. “It departs from the comic wildly, so if you hope it's loyal to the comic you'll be disappointed in that particular sense,” said the writer. “However, it's very, very different and very, very cool. Bad Robot has a strict secrecy enforcement policy, so we can't talk about details except to say that it's different from the comic.” Sounds like they maybe think the comic isn't quite so popular that changing things will piss many people off. What do you guys think?
