It is crazy to think 2049 isn't long off, but I'll be dead before then.

That's terrible.

Sounds like a bad straight-to-video sequel from the '80s.

Is... is that actually on purpose?

Nah, if there was any purpose at all to this atrocity, they would at least release it in the year 2019, not 2017. How could anyone actually resist releasing the movie in the year that the original was set? Especially since they've left it this long without... well, without tainting a masterpiece. Let's not beat about the bush. That is the risk here, if not the inevitability.

@DukeAcureds

The talent behind and in-front of the camera suggests this will be one of the best movies of 2017. Take a chill pill, broseph.

@DukeAcureds

Have you ever seen a movie by Denis Villanueve? Do you know who Roger Deakins is? Produced by Ridley Scott. Starring the A-list talent of Harrison Ford and Ryan Gosling.

Yeah...sounds like a DTV movie. Give me a break.

@regularmovieguy - Great talent. Maybe they should all get together and do Taxi Driver: Death on the Streets next, huh?

I don't care who they put on this movie. It should not be made.

They put some fine writers and artists on Before Watchmen, too, but any true, self-respecting fan of the original would not give it the time of day.

@DukeAcureds

If this team decides to do Taxi Driver: Death on the Streets then I would be all for it. It would probably be incredible.

@DukeAcureds - don't go see man, the rest of us will enjoy what will likely be another masterpiece or something very close. No big deal.

@DukeAcureds - "Masterpiece" If any movie deserves a re-do, it's that one. The original had an interesting concept but was so goddamn boring at times. Not to mention the ending seemed a bit rushed.

@Ryguy88 - It is a big deal. Any way you cut it. Whether it's really good or really bad, whether people are excited to see it or are appalled that it is actually going ahead.

It's a big deal, a big risk and a really shocking development.

BladeRunner is an historical example of Film art.

It is not a franchise and it did not set up any form of sequel.
It was even open-ended with regards to whether or not Dekkard was a replicant.

Therefor this sequel, despite the talent attached, is unwarranted. It's sole purpose for existing is, like most Hollywood sequels, to capitalize on a proven commodity.

It may turn out to be a good movie, but none of us have seen it, so we don't know.
However we do know that this is an unnecessary Hollywood sequel to an historical masterpiece.

It's a big deal.

@DukeAcureds - if the moview is great then captilizing on a proven commodity would obviously not be it's sole purpose for existing.

The Road Warrior revolutionized action movies, Fury Road came in 30 years later and did it again. I see this as being THAT type of extension to a classic.
