Yesterday was "First Contact Day," with series of virtual panels offering plenty of exciting reveals for Star Trek fans.

The biggest announcement was the imminent return of Q, with John de Lancie set to reprise the role of the near-omnipotent interdimensional being for the upcoming second season of Picard on Paramount+.

Introduced during the first season of The Next Generation, Q was initially antagonistic to the crew of the Enterprise before becoming more of an antihero-type and eventual mentor to Picard as the series progressed. He also made several appearances in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, Voyager and Lower Decks.

Season 2 of Picard is already in production, and is expected to premiere in 2022. Rejoining Patrick Stewart as the iconic starship captain will be Alison Pill, Isa Briones, Evan Evagora, Michelle Hurd, Santiago Cabrera, Jeri Ryan, Orla Brady and Brent Spiner.

Check out the teaser below, along with trailers for Star Trek: Discovery season 4, Lower Decks season 2, and a first look at Star Trek: Prodigy's animated take on Voyager's Captain Janeway (Kate Mulgrew).

How about a show focused on a Klingon ship (classic warrior klingons)

@dracula - Actually that wouldn't be bad at all...

Glad to see all the shows either returning or starting out. Sure I found a few things to bitch about with the first season of Discovery, thought fans expectations was too high for Picard, really didn't know what the hell to expect from Lower Decks, but generally enjoyed them all, problems or not. With Discovery each season definitely improved on the former and this trailer looks like they are really going back to the heart of all Trek shows as seen in TOS and TNG. Looking forward to the all of them, but not so much any future theatrical release. At least not at this time.

Seems TV is where Trek belongs. I enjoyed the Kelvin timeline movies but it's no secret that these movies underperformed.

And ST is seemingly doing really well on P+ so there's that.
We get the shows on Amazon and Netflix here in Europe so it's pretty convenient to watch without having another streamer to sub to.
I might pick up Discovery sometime, never interested me that much but it's four seasons deep. Good for binging on a sick weekend

So there is no reason for Q to “age”, so will he be de aged or be older as a joke to Picard?

@IronGenesis - due to limitations of our human biology he has to age so your 2nd idea will probably be the one they go with. I imagine he's quite overweight now as well. Still i can look past that

As a massive Star Trek fan, especially TNG, Picard such a disappointment. The plot changed halfway through the show and some stuff they set up never paid off. I hope they get focused and deliver the season the first one should've been. Let's be real, Q and Picard is what we wanted to see. We've seen Borg and Romulans to death

I thought Picard was just going to be a miniseries. Was really disappointed by it so hopefully they fix the issues with season 1
