Amazing STAR WARS Fan Film Reimagines A NEW HOPE's Lightsaber Duel As If It Were Made Today

Remember that tame lightsaber duel in A New Hope between Obi-Wan Kenobi and Darth Vader? Well, this live-action video (with expert VFX) reimagines that to great effect as the two go to war in epic style.

The original Star Wars movies have aged well but some of the action scenes definitely feel a little dated. The best example of that is Obi-Wan Kenobi and Darth Vader's lightsaber battle in A New Hope, especially as it's all rather tame compared to what we've seen in both the prequels and current trilogy.

Well, a group creators at FXitinPost have attempted to remedy that with a very impressive fan-made effort which adds a lot more energy to the battle and makes it more like how you might imagine a fight between these friends turned foes would play out. This is only a teaser and the whole thing will be released next year but it looks incredible and this is a change to the trilogy it'd be great to see.

Chances are it won't ever happen (unless Disney remakes the original movies and that's unlikely) but we could see Obi-Wan use his lightsaber like this in that long rumoured spinoff starring Ewan McGregor. What do you guys think of this video? As always, let us know your thoughts below.

Heh...It's painful to watch the original duel between Obi Wan and Darth Vader, when you're doing the SW-marathon and you've seen shit like "Duel of Fates".

That's the only downside of it since i usually follow the chronological order.

No way, i like the OT more than the prequels, and with the chronological order, it just gets better and better.
Ep V is still the best.

@Doomsday8888 - the problem with "duel of fates" is it's rediculously choreographed.

@Facade - People keeps saying this Anakin and Obi Wan were jedi in their prime they have the best Saber training and force training, these guys are literally reading each others moves before they do it. Yet everyone expects them to fight like the most base level untrained human who's angry and drunk.

@Doomsday8888 - The Duel of the Fates is over choreographed and the Anakin-Obi Wan Battle is ridiculously over the top. The fight between Anakin, Obi Wan and Dooku in Attack of the Clones is pointless and Yoda should never have to use a light saber, especially with someone as under skilled as Dooku.

The Emperor should never have used a light saber. He even called it a "Jedi weapon" mockingly in Return of the Jedi, but then Lucas has him using it as his first resort in Revenge of the Sith.

And watching Samuel L. Jackson using his light saver in Attack of the Clones was so fake looking. He looked lackadaisical in the Geonosis Arena fight.

Light Sabers are meant to be used less not more. "Luminous beings are we, not this crude matter," said Yoda.
He even told Luke not to being his weapons with him into the dark cave on Degobah.

That's the biggest problem with the prequels. Light sabers are everywhere and over used.

There’s nothing wrong with the lightsaber battle in 4.

It’s still better than any of the lightsaber battles innthe prequels no matter how good the choreography is

@LEVITIKUZ -

Seriously though, I get maybe saying that about the duels in Empire and Return, but the duel in A New Hope is two old guys wacking sticks at each other very slowly. All the duels in the Prequel Trilogy blow it up out of the water completely.

Unless your talking about the Adywan edit of the duel, then the two don't really compare.

@LEVITIKUZ - I think RLM said it best

"lightsaber duels have less to do with the fight itself but more so with the internalization of the characters. So, if you've ever said that the duel at the end of A New Hope was the worst one because it had bad fight choreography - and it was like an old guy and a guy in a mask who couldn't see what he was doing so they're just kinda awkwardly hitting each other with swords - then, I'm sorry, but you've missed the point entirely. "

@TheBigLebowski - Or it's only 1977 and the choreography is just not that evolved yet. I love the OT and I'm willing to accept that.
