Katherine Waterston's Daniels Channels Ripley In This First Official Look At ALIEN: COVENANT's Main Character

The Alien: Covenant Twitter account has been providing us with cryptic teaser pics, but we now have a first official look at the movie's main character: Katherine Waterston's Daniels. Check it out..

We'd heard that Daniels was going to be a lot like the franchise's original iconic heroine, Ellen Ripley (Sigourney Weaver), in Ridley Scott's Alien: Covenant, and this new image from the movie proves she certainly looks the part at least.

Following a couple of not-very-revealing teaser pics, EW has debuted this first official still, which features Fantastic Beasts and where to Find Them actress Katherine Waterston breaking out the heavy artillery for what's sure to be a nail-bitingly tense bug hunt.

The site also caught up with Scott, who says this film will provide fans with the answers they were left pondering after Prometheus. “Covenant is really going to show you who did it and why,” he assures.

Alien: Covenant will burst into theaters on May 19, 2017.

She doesn't look like a heroine. I just don't see it.

I really liked her in Fantastic Beasts

She spent the entirety of Fantastic Beasts looking like she's about to cry. Looks like it's her default face. Hoping that she comes across a bit stronger in this.

All of the protagonists that aren't Ripley channel Ripley, save for the non-canon Alien vs Predator films.

Can we please have something new? Something that doesn't involve the search for an old character or slavish callbacks to the original series? Is that even possible with franchises??

This movie is going to be good.

Quick question: the team from Alien were NOT terraformers, right? I mean, that could explain why they didn't have ANY weapons and this team seems to do so...

@Starlight - Yeah. They were miners and excavators, I believe.

@Starlight - I thought they were just a transport crew. Answering a distress signal right? Can't remember the beginning. But these guys are out looking for a missing ship. So they're more prepared.

@WYLEEJAY - You are correct. The USCSS Nostromo (reg. 180924609) was a $42 million dollar Weyland-Yutani A Lockmart CM 88B Bison M-Class starfreighter used as a commercial hauler between Thedus and Earth. The Nostromo was 243.8 meters in length, 164.6 meters wide and 72.5 meters in height. It also carried (or rather pulled) a massive refinery behind it for processing ore on the long trip to Earth.

@Lostcause - Damn. Thanks brah! Lol

@WYLEEJAY - Mmmmm which "missing ship" are they looking for? 'Cause no HUMAN ships are in the planet I believe... I think they're just TERRAFORMERS this time. How they GET to the planet, I have no idea about...
WYLEEJAY
WYLEEJAY - 12/22/2016, 10:28 AM
@Starlight - I believe I read they were looking for the Prometheus. They're probably following the same map David found in the ship on the planet that Prometheus took place on. Breadcrumbs probably. They confirmed that he will be playing two different David androids in this one, so I'm betting there is a newer model of David on the Covenant. Helping them track down the other David to get answers.

That's my theory so far. Probably wrong.

@WYLEEJAY - Some parts could work... I don't think they get to the Planet following something "specific", probably just a NEW FOUND Planet to Explore (I think they're more EXPLORERS, which come first, and not TERRAFORMERS, which probably come afterwards), that's it. Now, once IN THE PLANET, that "original" David android/head COULD make some sort of signal....

@Starlight - With the recent stuff I've pretty much been proven wrong already. So now I'm even more intrigued. Can't wait!
