Steven Spielberg's sci-fi thriller Robopocalypse, which is an adaptation of the Daniel H. Wilson novel of the same name, is currently in its pre-production and casting process. Ben Whishaw (Skyfall) recently confirmed his involvement with the film, and The Avengers' Chris Hemsworth was said to be in talks for the male lead. We also heard that Anne Hathaway (The Dark Knight Rises) was in negotiations for the female lead, and now we have official confirmation from the actress herself (via Empire) that she'll be in the movie.

"If Robopocalypse happens, I will be in it," says Hathaway, who turns 30 today. "And I believe it’s quite real, though you never want to hang your hat on anything." While not giving away any details on her character, she reveals how she got the role. "Whenever I’m taking time off, I always joke to my team that I’m on vacation unless Steven Spielberg calls. And I was on vacation and Spielberg called. So I was like, ‘OK, put my money where my mouth is’."

With an early 2013 shoot being planned, Robopocalypse is set to hit theaters April 25th, 2014. Below is a plot summary of the story:

In the future, robots have been created to serve Mankind. Archos, the 14° version of an advanced Artificial Intelligence developed by the U.S. government, continuously deleted for displaying hostility towards humans, escapes from being destroyed and soon becomes a virus, downloading itself into every piece of A.I.-controlled technology in the planet, leading to a worldwide robot uprising where the humans caught in the chaos struggle to survive.

hathaway's a good actress, and i look forward to her work in les miserables. but i hope she isn't supposed to be super sexy in this. that didn't quite work out too well in tdkr.

grif will be missed. but i'm sure he's probably already back with a new username.

@jingorot I'm assuming she'll be playing the politician/mother so she seems like a good fit.

@GrifwasRight: The legacy of Grif continues!!!!!!

@fearitself, @DukeAcureds : Yeah, what the hell? Spielberg is done with this genre? How is this sci fi any different from Star Wars? Maybe in "genre" he meant "Lucas."
