BLADE RUNNER Producer RUN RUN SHAW Dies, Aged 106!

Sad news for fans of Martial Arts films; Run Run Shaw, cofounder of the Shaw Brothers studio, has passed away at the ripe old age of 106.

Variety are reporting that film producer Run Run Shaw has passed away in Hong Kong today.

Runn was involved in the film industry through his production company, the Shaw Brothers studio, which he founded at 19 with his brother.

Shaw worked mostly in Singapore and Shanghai, focusing mainly on martial arts films, but branched out into the western market at times, most notable with Ridley Scott's Blade Runner.

Sir Run Run Shaw died at 6.55am local time in Hong Kong on Jan 7, 2014.

People dying is sad. At the age of 106 is an incredible achievement.
But why does this qualify for news? I mean, really? just because he produced one sci-fi classic in the 80s?

RIP indeed. Legendary producer, legendary studio. These guys were making comic book movies before the term existed. Great great great movies.
