BOX OFFICE: OBLIVION Looks Set For A $60.5 Million Weekend Internationally
After opening in the UK and several other international territories over the last few days, Joseph Kosinski's Oblivion has found box office success ahead of its release in North America next Friday. Hit the jump for further details!
Deadline reports that Oblivion has opened at #1 in 48 of the 52 international territories it was released in yesterday (although it opened in the UK on Wednesday). Friday's gross is an estimated $13.1 million, giving it a current total of $23.1 million. That means it's on course for $60.5 million for the weekend. It broke records in Russia with an opening of $1.5 million (the biggest of 2013 so far), while it has since made $3.2 million, making it Tom Cruise's biggest opening ever in that country. Oblivion opens in North America and seven other international territories next weekend. It's not exactly the kind of film which lends itself to a sequel, but if it is a success domestically, that will certainly help increase the odds of Joseph Kosinski's sequel to TRON: Legacy moving ahead!
