BOX OFFICE: PROMETHEUS Takes The #1 Spot In The UK And Opens 319% Ahead Of SWATH

Prometheus has opened up in several international locations this weekend, although it is in the UK where it has made the most impressive impact. Facing off against Universal's Snow White and the Huntsman, many wondered just how well the 15-rated sci-fi/horror mash-up would fare. Well, it's currently 319% ahead of Snow White's opening and has earned the accolade of having the highest opening day ever for a Ridley Scott film in the country. "We have had a superb start with Prometheus opening a clear No. 1 grossing £2.2m ($3.39M). This includes an estimated £200k ($306K) from special midnight screenings on Thursday," the studio told Deadline earlier today. The two x70mm IMAX locations in the UK (London and Manchester) reported sold out showings all day yesterday and even late night screenings were sold out in advance. Prometheus has also broken the record for advance IMAX sales beating both Avatar and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2. Read my 5* review of the film by clicking HERE to check it out.

In the distant future, two superpowers control Earth and fight each other for all the solar system's natural resources. When one side dispatches a team to a distant planet to terraform it for human colonization, the team discovers an indigenous race of bio-mechanoid killers. Ridley Scott, director of 'Alien' and 'Blade Runner,' returns to the genre he helped define. With PROMETHEUS, he creates a groundbreaking mythology, in which a team of explorers discover a clue to the origins of mankind on Earth, leading them on a thrilling journey to the darkest corners of the universe. There, they must fight a terrifying battle to save the future of the human race.

So glad!
SWATH was good too!!

But I'm really shocking happy that a 15 rated SciFi ALEIN Horror film takes the lead against a fairy tale featuring Kristen 'Bella' Steward & Chris 'Thor' Hemsworth & was also appealing to males for action & for females for obvious reasons!
So happy for Prometheus!
Fassbender & Rapace are destined to be huge

"It has Michael Fassbender and Idris Elba in it, your argument is invalid."

Umm... would you like a list of terrible films that had better acting duos or even trios than Fassbender and Elba? There's a lot more than the actors in a movie that make it worth watching.

I haven't heard many good things from my friends about the film other than the visuals.

...I actually agree, in all fairness, with Ranger14 that you probably shouldn't, necessarily, make a decision on a film based, solely, on the actors that are involved the movie in question... However, by the same token I also agree with PreparationH that you shouldn't "judge a book by its cover", so to speak... If you're going to make a, fair, justified decision about anyone and/or anything then, yes, you should at the very least wait and get to know and/or see the person, or in this case film, before you, ultimately, pass judgment... Everyone is, of course, entitled to their own opinion, but, at the very least, they should still (...IMO...) try offer a more educated, if you will, opinion..., ya know?... *cool*/P :)

My lady who saw it last night said SWATH was a pass. She doesn't always know what makes a good film, but she certainly knows a bad one when she sees it. She described it as boring and at times rather random, but with great visual effects.

thalomide@ People always attack Grif. He has never ever attacked anyone here. He just states what he thinks about a film and moves on, albeit direct and not usually flowery. Nothing wrong with that. I have more respect for that then the many who choose to call posters names and attack them for what they think.

Prometheus was good, the story was a bit weak in places, but it looked amazing! you can really see the Giger influence in everything, right down to the "pyramid" (based on Dune II unless i'm very much mistaken)

The only bit of the film i didn't like was at the very end with the "big reveal" (which i won't go in to, spoilers and all)

anyway Prometheus is a good movie dont expected it to be scary like the Alien movies. its more of a story driven movie.

Just seen it. It's worth watching, and it's entertaining enough, but there's something a bit "phoned-in" about it. There's some great acting and superlative cinematography and fx, and a decent amount of horror and gore. But something about the script is just off, kind of unfocussed.

Basically it feels like a film where everyone was doing a professional job but nobody actually cared about the movie.
