BOX OFFICE: Rian Johnson's LOOPER Takes The #2 Spot With An Estimated $20 Million
The early figures for this weekend at the North American box office are in, and while it has been beaten to the top spot by Hotel Transylvania, the critically acclaimed time travel adventure has still had a good opening. Dredd meanwhile is nowhere to be seen. Read on for details!
Sony Pictures have had a good weekend at the North American box office as they secured both #1 and #2 with Hotel Transylvania and Looper. The former is an animated film starring Adam Sandler and his regular cohorts Andy Samberg, Kevin James, Steve Buscemi and David Spade. That opened with $11 million yesterday and looks set to take around $39.5 million for the weekend. However, it was Looper (starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Bruce Willis) which has really impressed as it opened with a solid $6.9 million for an estimated weekend total of $19 million - $20 million. Not at all bad for an R-Rated film such as this one. Unfortunately, the news isn't quite so good for DREDD. It has already slipped right out of the Top 10, making a sequel extremely unlikely at this point. Read my 5* review of DREDD by clicking HERE, and my 4* review of Looper by clicking HERE.
