The initial designs by WETA's Greg Broadmore of the aliens in "District 9" were supposed to look a lot weirder than the finished product you're familiar with.

@Teabag

I think we all have an idea where the creator received his inspiration from. The images look awesome though...great detail and not your average creature as depicted in most films

This, Hangover, and Paranormal Activity, were truly spectacular films for their respective genres, and IMO, the three best movies of the year.

anyone else saw Law Abiding citizen as yet?

Was paranormal activity worth full admission? I need to know because I've been hesitant on going to see it

wards...you are right about 'law abiding citizen.' i just saw it yesterday night and i had to wonder how any adult with even a cursory knowledge of the american legal system, law enforcement, organic chemistry, hand-to-hand-combat or computers (programming or practical application) could buy that mess of one-off absurd fiction framed as true crime...an r-rated flick that only 13 year old would be so naive as to be able to make the jumps in sense and logic.

veering back to the point of the thread, i like the more sinister, sleek, lean, but not skeletal aliens in the sketches far more than the aliens of the film that looked, to me, somewhat like they were made from moldy pizza and twist ties.

@in lovewiththeregencyelf

I knew what would happen; predictability, because I haven't come across a film lately where I couldn't tie pieces together from the extensive years of watching films to understand regardless how different movies are, certain blueprints apply. I used to think until lastnight it was the fault of the writers.

There was a substantial degree of loopholes but my girlfriend and I enjoyed the movie based off the the portrayal of Butler and Jamie. As far as legal systems go, we have films where instead of someone taking the creature, mass murderer and chopping them into thirty pieces, pouring gasoline on each segment and eventually burning them all, they'll instead shoot once or twice and walk away. This leads to ten more sequels of the creature wrecking havoc. In other words I diced films apart for not being "reality" based so I toned it down a bit because a movie has to be viewed at times as a movie because when I don't do this, I'll view each film with a microscope and generally majority of films would fail the test.

But I definitely understand what you meant and respect your opinion because there was much that couldve been altered

@Whispers68, see Paranormal Activity. It's the scariest movie i've seen in years , and definitely worth the price of admission. I haven't been able to sleep well since I've seen it. Bring you're significant other. She'll be clutching on to you like a snake on a gerbil ( in a good way)

One of the best scifi movies ever made. It's up there with 2001 and the original day the earth stood still.

whispers--point taken. it doesn't make any sense to watch a movie without some suspension of disbelief at the ready. i mean, you're right, no movie makes sense if you compare it meticulously with the reality we know and experience every day...after all, if movies were that 'accurate' they would be shitty, overly-complicated messes, like so much of life. ha. anyway, your point is well taken.
