David Goyer: From Superman to Heaven's Shadow

According to Deadline.com, David Goyer and Michael Cassutt have sold the film rights to a new sci-fi trilogy for seven figures. As the story explains, Goyer, who has been working on the screenplay for what the article refers to as Superman: The Man of Steel, found Warners to be the best place for the new tale.

"It's a perfect project for Warner Bros and I've obviously enjoyed a long and fruitful relationship with the studio," Goyer says.

The first in a trilogy, Heaven's Shadow "begins when an object is discovered heading for earth. Initial panic gives way to a competition between governments to be first to intercept what they believe is a breakaway meteor. What the astronauts discover leads to an encounter with alien forces that are a threat to humanity."

The book, which will be published by Ace Books next summer, will be followed in the next two summers by, respectively, Heaven's War and Heaven's Fall.

Details Deadline, "For Warner Bros, Goyer has recently racked up either script or story credit on Batman Begins, The Dark Knight, the untitled next installment of the Batseries, and Superman: Man of Steel, a reinvention of the venerable DC Comics hero that's being godfathered by Chris Nolan."

Del Toro for Superman? I'm sorry but I don't like that idea. He'll probably basterdise it like Burton tried to.
JJ Abrams is my choice right now.
My top choice is still Brad Bird.

So long as they get a good director, this new stuff from Goyer will probably be good. Its when he directs that it all goes bad.

And yes, JJ Abrams for Superman.

Del Toro on Superman? That idea boggles my mind. The man can't make a bad movie. Can we get Dr. Fate as a supporting character and have a supernatural villain? Or maybe we would just get the scariest version of Brainiac or Darkseid any one has ever seen!

@Dynamo yeah thinking about it your right superman seems to grounded and not fantasy like. It seems like he would be like Burton and just decide to go over the top with it.

@ Bleedthefreak
I never made that point in my post. His visual style doesn't really match Superman. Also his opinion of superheroes would probably either change the character into a cynic or just turn him into a supporting character in his own movie.
He doesn't seem like someone who would get Superman as a character.

Well Goyer's project sounds interesting I wish him the best of luck. On the subject of the next Superman director it won't be a big name since they are following Jonah Nolan and David Goyer's script with Christopher Nolan producing someone big would not want to play by other wishes for a movie and if they were big then they would pitch it themselves.

As for Del Toro, he's great but i cant see his quirkiness working in a Supes flick. JJ Abrahms would be completley awesome, but i doubt he'll end up directing.

I guess we should count ourselves lucky that at the very least Nolan is producing, from what he's said about it in past interviews, he seems to understand how truly epic this movie needs to be.

mm, I wouldve liked for James Cameron to direct this one, but i think his vision would conflict with Nolan's, and besides, we all know hes a DC hater lol.
I was a little on the defensive on having Goyer direct this one, so I guess its good news.

I believe that the ONLY reasons Chris isnt directing Supes is bc rite now hes doing Bats3, and Superman HAS to come out in 2012 or Siegel's fam will sue WB. If Chris had time to do Bats and then Superman rebbot, Im sure he woulve done it.. He was very enthuastic about it

He looks a little too old ^
I think the reboot would work better with a younger actor. I think that routh was the perfect choice

So instead of the baby Superman landing in Kansas to be discovered by only the Kents, a meteor comes to Earth packed with attacking aliens that are uncovered by a government science team?

I was kinda hoping they'd go with Mark Millar's wild-card idea. Oh well, maybe next reboot.

This sounds hot!!!!! haven't had a good original trilogy since the matrix(well 2 out of 3 aint bad, lol), which, btw, the wachowski bros. didn't actually write!! Love Goyers' work, so glad he has serious input into cbm's, we need more people like him, who respect the source material, but at the same time knows what aspects to change for movie purposes.
