Did The Avatar Footage Destroy The Hype?

Did The Avatar Footage Destroy The Hype?

Most of you have seen Spider11's article regarding the newly released Avatar trailer. If you have not then go do that now. If you have then keep reading and take the poll!

The trailer looks visually stunning, and I only saw it in 2D. I can only imagine what it will look like in 3D. I am no stranger to the Imax 3D technology. In fact I prefer it. In IMAX it is truly the next level of movie making and provides a more intense experience for the movie goer. You actually feel like you are in the movie.

For those of you that don't realize what the 3D technology brings to the table. Watching a 3D movie is like physically being there, as your visual eye site is in 3D. In other words every day life is in 3D. If the production team has the budget to film the movie in 3D they do. James Cameron will not let us down with the technology he is using for the Avatar movie. But will he let us down with the story?

The story starts out with Jake Sully (Sam Worthington) who is a former marine that was injured in combat on Earth. Jake is drafted to participate in the Avatar program were he is giving a new healthy body to control. Jake then travels to Pandora to help out the Na'vi. While there he falls in love with one of the Na'vi and decides to help them in their fight against the invading humans.

And that's what this article is all about. ComicBookMovie fans from the trailer does it look like the story will be sub par? Or do you think it will deliver and be the next big thing? Take the poll, and sound off with your thoughts below.

I don't think it told a lot of the storyline. It was a pretty cool trailer considering that there were NO words spoken whatsoever.

There were words spoken in the trailer. Worthington said "This is great" when he was in his Avatar. Not much I know, but just clarifying that :) Sorry.

Well said TheMyth.

That being said, I don't think the trailer ruined it at all, as a matter of fact for me it cleared things up a bit, as I was confused about this Avatar movie and Last Airbender movie. I will definately go see this, even if it looks a lil Fern Gully, I like that movie.

It looked good, that's for sure. But what the trailer showed we already knew. If one can call that a trailer. As for the actual story, well, we just have to wait 'til 18 of december now don't we?

And everybody knows this is James Cameron we are talking about, yes? If I recall correctly, all of his stories delivered: The Terminator, Aliens, The Abyss, Terminator 2, True Lies and yes, even Titanic. Don't know about Pirahnas II. I for one trust him to deliver a very good story along with the amazing FX.

I do hope they put strong emphasis on story and character development, and not the effects.

At least Michelle Rodriguez wasn't in the trailer. That could have ruined it.

P.S. James Cameron + Mass Effect movie = Perfection

I am totally stoked to see this movie. The trailer was a teaser trailer it is not supposed to give us info on the story, but rather show us the most awesome things in the movie to perk our interests. When the theatrical trailer is released I think it will be more clear as to whether the story will be good or not. Right now it is to early to make a judgment on whether the story will be good or not.

I am expecting a lot from this flick because of the hype. The trailer was so so, but I am still looking forward to seeing it. Tyler, I agree with you P.S comment.

Hehe, thanks spidey. Mass Effect is the perfect movie for Cameron to do, but he would also make an awesome Halo movie.

I don't think it ruined it. Maybe in some people's mind it doesn't live up to the hype but that doesn't mean it's game over.

I wasn't blown away but I wasn't dissappointed either. I am still seeing it.

mass effect is my second favorite game(behind any elder scrolls game) and it definitely needs a movie but i think theyll do that after all the games come out and we know the whole story

u are absolutly right soccerjoshc, its a teaser trailer, its not meant to show us anything. like the teaser for the first iron an ony showed the mark 1 suit. anwayz, i dont think it destroyed the hype at all. cant wt for this one, although i cant see t in imax, the o wher i live closed down a few years ago :(

We shall all see. It hasn't ruined it. Just Imagine how far we came from Jurassic Park to Final Fantasy the Spirits Within. Tech has improved dramatically since the 80's.

Even the font in the trailer disappoints me. I feel like this the trailer for the game not the movie. If you guys think the story is lacking, the graphics certainly aren't the thing that's going to save this.
MisterNiceGuy
MisterNiceGuy - 8/20/2009, 2:45 PM
Mass effect was a brillint game. oh man i would love to see that on the big screen. only itd be a bit difficult cuz they would have to choose one path for the story. idk about you guys but at the end of the game i convinced the final boss (forgot his name) kill himself

So not to sound like a dumbass....even though I'm gonne. There is this...."Avatar" and M. Knight's "Avatar:The Last Airbender" Correct? Don't you think people are gonna be confused?? Like Paul Blart Mall Cop and Observe and Report(which I watched last night....pretty funny, not Seth's best, but laughable)

@John M. Knights movie removed Avatar from the title for so it wouldn't be confusing.

I think people are idiots who say they won't go see it, cause it didn't blow them away. People don't get it when they say it's revolutionary! By that they mean in 3-D, the 2-D is the next step in visually stunning effects!..

This is James Cameron were talking about. He writes phenomenal stories. I think a story is good if its been in production for almost 15 years. The effects and the story will be great in this movie. How can you not like an Odyssey like story? I think this movie will be fantastic in every way possible. The trailer made the effects and story look great.
InTylerWeTrust
InTylerWeTrust - 8/20/2009, 4:32 PM
Critic: I see your point, but most of the time he's been working on Avatar has been spent developing the technology for the CGI. The trailer only made the effects look great, there was basically no story involved in the trailer.

Kinda funny listening to comic fans complain about story. IMO. We got directors of all genres and types praising this movie. BUT man its going to suck because comic book fans think the story looks uninteresting. The same fans that went and saw G.I. Joe, Transformers, and will most likely see Kick-Ass.

Yep I am positive this movie won't be seen by those same people. LOL sarcasm aside, I think this movie looks awesome. I love movies that show how ruthless and disgusting the human race is. Like District 9 and Men Behind the Sun.

Unfortinately this movie has been done. Ferngully, Planet Terra, District 9, Origins: Spirits of the Past. So people will most likely compare it to those movies. I am just glad to see Cameron being able to see his dream movie come to life on the big screen. Not many people get to experience, much less share, their dreams becoming reality. Kudos to Mr. Cameron.

Btw this poll is awful. It reminds me of a question like "Why did G.I. Joe suck?" with the answers "Because they changed the foundation story" or "Because they are in France". Not actually asking the question btw, just showing an example of a bad poll to compare to.

A better poll would be "After seeing the Avatar TEASER Trailer are you still hyped?" with answers "Yes it looks awesome!" or "No, I don't understand what Hollywood big wigs see that makes it so good."

@ darkkami If u seen my post iam not complaining bout the movie I actually think it looks good. Comparing to Transformers the CGI LOOKS PRETTY REAL. But however Cameron created the new tech it looks good. but again Iam not in the CGI business or animation.

Did you ever hear the one about the visionary director who had his head so far up his own ass after he made the highest grossing chick flick off all time that he started to see blue. Literally started to see blue or in this case 8 feet tall lanky blue basketball players.
