Empire Online Breaks Down the Prometheus Trailer

What do the folks at Empire think of the Prometheus trailer? Do their predictions mirror your own?

I did a trailer break down for "Prometheus" on Monday, Dec. 26, but guess what? Empire Online's done one too!

And I'm not too proud to admit that they found things I didn't. (But I STILL think mine has some value.. dammit! *sniff*)

But anyhow, my trailer analysis involved comparing the "Prometheus" trailer to the trailer for "Alien." I noted similarities and what those details may mean for the plot of "Prometheus," which, at this point, is anyone's guess.

Well, Empire Online lasered in on the "Prometheus" trailer with pinpoint accuracy and hi-res pics to decipher their own theories.

Here are a few highlights:

Look at the photo above (and I apologize if it's too small for you to make out the detail I'm noting. Empire's resolution may be big enough if mine isn't. See the link to Empire below). The Weyland logo, with "W" inside of a red symbol, is visible on vehicles in a still showing explorers moving onto the surface of a planet. Empire noted that the "Weyland" company name is solo, without the famous "Yutani" portion. This could be evidence that Weyland hadn't merged with Yutani yet in "Prometheus," which has to be significant to the plot and the greater "Alien" franchise timeline.

In the above photo, Michael Fassbender's character, the android David, is in a chamber with a bunch of containers called ampules. There's a large group of them, and in a previous photo, they were lying in rows. They look VERY similar to those groups of eggs we've seen in other "Alien" movies, don't they? Could these ampules be the precursors or prototypes for those bulbous, face-hugging beasts that pop up in other films in the series? I wouldn't be surprised if the answer was yes.

A mutated person, or disfigured, or something, leaps at someone else. Does this suggest that the monsters in "Prometheus" are transformed, scarred humans? Or is that person leaping an alien of some kind who always looked like that to begin with? Empire suggests that maybe there's some kind of infection in the film that turns people against each other. Intriguing.
