As you may recall, Joss Whedons short lived television show Firefly was also made into a movie titled Serenity. It follows the adventures of the crew of a spaceship who travel around the galaxy smuggling various items and operating outside the law. Now the movie will get a follow up/sequl Comic Book. Patton Oswald, a stand up comedian who is probably best known for his role on King of Queens, will be writing the comic. Oswald had a small role on Whedons recently cancelled show Dollhouse. It was there, that after meeting with Whedon, that he got permission for the comic. The comic will be released by Darkhorse in June. Follow the attached link for a full interview with Patton.

My buddy just recently got me into this show. I like it. The comic should be pretty cool. Btw, it's Patton Oswalt, not Oswald. Didn't Patton do some Justice League stuff a couple years back?

@superdog-No worries. Just wanted to do my part:) Cool article though. I have mixed feelings about Joss Whedon. He talked shit about the Punisher in Wizard a few years ago and it really turned me off on wanting to read or watch any of his stuff. Nobody disses Frank Castle!

Yeah there is a Serenity comic but its all stories set before the events of the film.

Matches, Punisher sucks!;)..ah no Im messin with ya..but he does, just a little...

exactly. thats why i thought this one would be comicbook movie related cause its a sequel to the movie. the title may be a little misleading but the headline clears it up.

LOVE LOVE LOVE Firefly!!

@Ror-Haha! Yeah, I know he's not everybody's favorite. The reasons Whedon cited why he doesn't like the Punisher are the very reasons why I DO like him. Something about how he's different than every other Marvel character and doesn't belong in the MU. You get a pass, though:)

There are actually a couple Serenity comics, For Those Left Behind and Better Days. As for Whedon dissing Punisher, who cares? Just because he's in the public eye he's not allowed to have opposing opinions about comic book characters? Come on dude, he's still a fan just like the rest of us.

Brilliant find superdog!

I only watched the show and movie for the first time about a month ago and I bought both of the existing comic books series set between the show and film so it's great to hear that there's more to come! :)

I only ever saw a few episodes of firefly during a marathon a couple years ago. I was only like 13 when it was originally on air. I loved it though. Loved the movie too. And Nathan Fillion cracks me up! On a halloween episode of castle, he dressed like his firefly character and his daughter said something like "haven't you already done that?" Lol. Maybe I'm easily amused.

Don't know how I feel about this - yes I'm definately happy 'Firefly' is continuing (in one form or another), but I still miss Wash and Shepard. It doesn't feel... 'right' without them.

@DudeLove-Relax, man. My Whedon-hate has since subsided (read my earlier post). Of course the guy has a right to his own opinion. I just didn't take kindly to the way he worded it in his interview. I've never read any of his comics, but I like some of his tv stuff. Although I think Buffy the Vampire Slayer would have been served better with movie sequels rather than a tv show. Don't kill me, Buffy fans! :)

grtman, loganell@ according to the article this is a wash story. even though he is dead the story will feature a group of 3 pilots chrisining a new firefly ship and reminiscing about thier days with wash. so you will get your wash fill.

grif@ actually its quite funny. its had a remarkably long run for a show that was cancelled after a handful of episodes. how many long running successful shows get a movie and 2 comic book adaptations. kinda wierd actually.

You always know its a good show when FOX cancels it. Why has not the sy-fi channel picked this one up. Kinda like when they bought Stargate SG-1 from Showtime.
MarkCassidy
MarkCassidy - 3/26/2010, 7:24 PM
The even stranger thing is, not only did Fox cancel the show just as it began to gain a following, they actually aired the last few episodes out of context so they didn't make a lot of sense. If you watch em on the box set they are cleared up a bit. But the last ep is still a total anti climax..thanks Fo...[frick]s.

The movie set things right. And only someone with the balls of Whedon would kill off 2 characters that were basically the heart and soul of the crew. I thought it was hard to take but man did it make for dramatic viewing.
