Earlier this morning, Paramount Pictures officially released the full-length theatrical trailer for Ang Lee's highly-anticipated and über-ambitious sci-fi action thriller Gemini Man, which stars 2x Academy Award-nominee Will Smith (Aladdin) as two identical elite assassins - Henry Brogan & Junior - that will find themselves pitted against one another by a former colleague-turned-enemy, played by Academy Award-nominee Clive Owen (Inside Man), who's decided to eliminate the older Smith for reasons unknown.

Plot details have mostly been kept under wraps, but the film looks to feature a showdown for the ages as Will Smith takes on a version of himself that's every bit as deadly as him, if not more so.

Mary Elizabeth Winstead (Birds of Prey) and Benedict Wong (Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness) also star.

“Who will save you from yourself?”

This sounds like a job for...
MARTHA!
or your mom.

Alright, now I've watched the trailer. I like what I see.

@Nebula - Ya my friend said this is just a Looper rehash, but I think it looks different enough. The fact that it's about cloning instead of time travel, will help differentiate the films. Looking forward to it hopefully it'll be entertaining! :)

@Nebula - Yeah I've already seen a few people around online already go there, and I certainly can't blame them as there's obvious surface level similarities, and will probably parallel somewhat thematically. But really the fact that it's cloning versus time travel as the method of establishing the premise, and the fact that...

*SPOILERS FOR "LOOPER"*

presumably the younger Will Smith in this movie won't be able to simply kill himself to then make the older, present day version immediately disappear, so it should make them different enough to be worth it at least trying to tell such a story.
Whether the execution still winds up being much good in this case...

@CaptCoulson - "obvious surface level similarities" That's the internet for ya.

I didn't like Looper, I think I might like this though.

@Nebula - well, do you say that "that's the internet for ya" with kind of an eye roll behind it? Maybe I've just gotten too used to immediately going to the cynical side of things lol.. but that's kind of what it feels like. but, I think that phrasing is fairly accurate. "A younger version of a man is hunting down the older version of himself in the same time period" -- that is indeed something that could be said about both movies. Pretty surface level.
Of course, the REASON of why the younger was created in the case of Gemini Man and why the hunt is on, that should provide a significant enough difference to make it its own story worth telling.
And I have a feeling that even if Rian Johnson were only to have gone to make Looper today, he'd still do the same casting he did, he wouldn't want to do the digital route with the same actor. He's obviously got a long standing collaboration with JGL and ultimately he's more of the lead of that movie than Willis is. Even today it seems easier to de-age someone for a significant amount of a feature film than to age them.

@CaptCoulson - Yeah, there's an eye roll. Made me think of this YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCOZcxtwy_YYe7KKky8DCLGQ/videos

I like that it says Will Smith twice though.

I still think this would've made a great sci-fi comedy. A younger Fresh Prince era Will hanging out with a older I Am Legend era Will would be golden.

I saw a featurette where they said it's not deaging like marvel but motion capture like Andy Serkis

They should have de-aged the young version looks too cgi

@MUTO123 - hahaha I always thought that, he acted too sickly to help out around the house, but once he made it to that factory he was suddenly very spry, chugging back that fizzy lifting drink like a 18 year old on his first day of college! lol

Young Will's weapon has a silencer and is aimed up, while Old Will's weapon is just a base short-barrel and pointed down.

It's an ED medication advert.

"plot details being kept under wraps"... is this not adapted from a fairly famous book? And I feel like I remember that Hollywood's been wanting to make this for quite awhile now, and that probably just before the last handful of years they were willing to go with a younger actor who looked reasonably enough like the older one (ala "Looper")

And, when we're straight up seeing behind the scenes material of them filming Will Smith while in the playing of the role of the 25yo clone and he's got the headgear with the typical mo-cap dots all over his face, forgive me Mr. Lee but then I don't know how it's *NOT* the "digitally de-aging" technique that Marvel's pretty much perfected by now but which Lee seems to be adamant in saying it isn't.

Movie could be good, but the "de-aged" version is a bit distracting, at least in the trailer. Maybe things will be changed between now and then.
