Well, this is a rather interesting casting, if all goes as planned. According to Varitey, George Clooney is in talks to start in Disney & Brad Bird's upcoming science fiction film, called 1952.

"George Clooney is negotiating to star in Brad Bird's extraterrestrial pic "1952" at Disney. Studio is keeping the plot under wraps, though the project is said to be a "Close Encounters of the Third Kind"-esque story following a man who makes contact with aliens on Earth."

Clooney is no stranger to sci-fi genre. He played a lead role in Solaris, a science fiction-psychological drama directed by Steven Soderbergh, and he is also starring in Alfonso Cuarón's upcoming film, Gravity. 1952 will be Brad Bird's second live action film (first one being Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol). Damon Lindelof and Jeff Jensen wrote the film.

So much for 1952 being a secret Star Wars script... I was excited to think a lot of time had already gone into writing a film... instead, Disney decided to announce a release date first...

@Christuffer

you will if/when he directs star wars.
the guy's got the right ingredients. he takes a fun concept and does a lot of creative things with it. like the superpowers in Incredibles or the gadgets in Mission Impossible. he has a sense of fun and adventure. and he pays attention to the characters.

not saying he's OMGYEAH BEST DIRECTOR EVAR!
no, he'd probably be a bad fit for, say, batman
but for star wars, he's perfect.

brad bird is a great director, he wrote and directed the incredibles..
lindelof has been slipping lately though, there a difference between making audiences ask questions and just leaving things hanging, and getting no pay-off.. hope the story is good though.

Brad Bird is awesome, I'm really excited for this film. And he has one of the highest averages on Rotten Tomatoes it's 96% whereas Christopher Nolan is on 86% (which is still extremely high).
Can't wait for this :)

@jingorot - Didn't know he directed Incredibles. Still, I guess I'll have to witness his work in action if he does Star Wars.

@Lego

proof? jackass.

and in case you retort, no we don't need to give proof because we are SPECULATING based on the fact that he's being seriously considered along with spielberg (said no to direct), and abrams (said no to direct)

Ooooh maybe Clooney is in talks to play a Talon Karrde type character or better yet Thrawn! Just because the novels aren't being adapted doesn't mean they can't use Thrawn as a character.
