GODZILLA Director Game For 'DESTROY ALL MONSTERS' Type Sequel

Discussing a potential sequel to his upcoming "Godzilla" reboot, director Gareth Edwards stated, “With the exception of the 1954 original, I would say my second favorite film is Destroy All Monsters. I just love the idea of a monster island. Having a world with these creatures in it. I find that fascinating and would like to treat that realistically. I wouldn’t want to limit it to one other foe, I think it’s more fun to – this question will come back to haunt me if we ever do a sequel – but I think multiple creatures make better movies in terms of the image of Gojira.”

"Destroy All Monsters" was a 1968 Japanese kaiju film featured an all-star cast of monsters from many of Toho's previous monster films including Godzilla, King Ghidorah, Minilla, Mothra, Rodan, Gorosaurus, Anguirus, Kumonga, Manda, Baragon, and Varan.

Sounds awesome. I would love to see the American versions of all the classic monsters. I would love to see a remake of King Kong vs Godzilla!

It would be cool to see Godzilla go up against King Ghidorah, that's big G's nemesis imo.

I don't think American audiences would accept a Destroy All Monsters so soon. Most people won't seen any of those other monsters before so it wouldn't have any impact. Pacific Rim had tons of monsters in it and look how that's done here (I'm sure international numbers will be better, but still). I'd rather see Ghidorah on the big screen next (if there is a next). And I have no desire to see this cross over with Pacific Rim.

Mecha-Godzilla is badass, but we've had 3 versions of him throughout 5 different movies. Add to that the fact that it's a machine, and I'm going to side with Gareth Edwards; Lots more kaiju, please. My preference is no more robots. They're overplayed. Unless, that is, they come up with something completely new and original that none of us have ever seen before. Perhaps......

Countries that are considered prime targets create their own robotic defenders, but instead of Jaegeresque robots, each robot resembles a beast of some kind. (Similar in concept to Mecha G.) Then they are all employed throughout the story against various monsters and/or Godzilla. A robot version of destroy all monsters, if you will.

A robotic kaiju vs. Godzilla battle royale might get me excited enough about robots to accept them again as Great Godzilla foes. (And to wet my pants.) Just a thought....

@spidey1994 I could see a "King Kong vs. Godzilla" remake happening.

Time Warner does own the rights to the original "King Kong" and all they would have to do for the remake is make a new Kong (character, not movie) that's a fair opponent to the new Godzilla. Toho did that for their crossover. After all, the original Kong was way, way smaller then Godzilla and he fell to his death back in 1933.

Hell yeah a modern Destroy all monsters would be awesome. But ONLY of they use the classic monsters. I wanna see King Ghidora in the next one, along with Rodan and Anguirus.

Looks like he just confirmed that Godzilla survives in the reboot. YAY! No oxygen destroyer-related death! This is already better than that 1998 travesty...

Lol Japenses Godzilla vs '98 Godzilla... No contest. Pretty accurate depiction of how that fight would go down haha.

98 Godzilla should be explained as a female Godzilla and the TOHO version is a male. They should make love by the radioactive fire and make many Godzookies and Minyas.

First we need to see if the remake is any good, which I really hope it is, then I'll get excited for a sequel.

@GrayMatter - No, there is NO love for TriStar's Zilla.

@Bodwulf - Personally, I think Godzilla could do MUCH better for himself, although it would explain why Minya is so ugly.

As for myself, I'd love to see remakes of KING KONG VS. GODZILLA (but I thought Universal owned the rights to Kong now) and DESTROY ALL MONSTERS, but let's see how the first GODZILLA does before talking potential sequels. I'm still hoping we don't wind up with another FRAUDzilla like TriStar's version.

King Ghidorah is what I want to see. With today's effects he would look so badass.

You could have put Godzilla in Pacific Rim and the entire movie would have been 15 minutes long (the exact amount of time that it would have taken for Godzilla to destroy every Jaeger and then end all life on Earth).

Let's not just stop at King Kong being thrown up against Godzilla, King Ghidorah, Minilla, Mothra, Rodan, Gorosaurus, Anguirus, Kumonga, Manda, Baragon, and Varan.

I see the plot of Avengers 3!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

hehe
